Recreation Department

Leslie C. Quick, Jr. Recreation Complex, ext. 4140

The Department of Recreation coordinates a comprehensive intramural sports program, club sports, fitness classes, and other special events.  Intramural events include individual and team sport competition, with full-season schedules, as well as tournament-style championships. Programs typically offered include flag football, outdoor soccer, volleyball, basketball, indoor floor hockey, indoor soccer, lacrosse, softball, racquetball, pool/billiards, ping-pong, and tennis. Currently, there are eight club sports, including men's and women's rugby, men's ice hockey, equestrian, men's crew, men's volleyball, skiing and snowboarding, and karate. Fitness classes offered include step-aerobics and body sculpting, tennis, Pilates, yoga, swimming, jazz dance, and aqua aerobics. Lifeguard training courses are also available. Special events are usually sponsored in conjunction with one or more student organizations.

The Leslie C. Quick, Jr. Recreation Complex (Rec-Plex) is primarily used for open recreation, physical conditioning, and intramural sports. The 25-meter swimming pool is home to the varsity swimming and diving teams. The Rec-Plex also includes an aerobic and cardiovascular area, the recreation weight room, three racquetball courts, a multipurpose room, locker rooms, saunas, a whirlpool, and the Birkenstock Fieldhouse with four courts used interchangeably for basketball, tennis, and volleyball.

Use of the Rec-Plex is on a first-come, first-serve basis. Membership for full-time, undergraduate students is included with tuition and fees. Graduate and part-time students can purchase a membership to the Rec-Plex on a semester-basis. Members must present a valid StagCard for admission to the building. Equipment, including towels and locks, are available from the equipment room on a sign-out basis.

Leadership development and employment opportunities exist for students through the Department of Recreation as the intramural program, weight room, club sports program, equipment room, pool, and front desk are staffed or coordinated by students working with the professional or part-time staff.
