What is FUSA?
FUSA is the largest and most representative student organization on the Fairfield University campus. FUSA is responsible for representing and advocating student opinions, issues, needs and concerns as well as programming an array of social, educational and cultural events. FUSA strives to plan events on every Thursday, Friday and Saturday night during the academic year. In addition, FUSA is responsible for overseeing other clubs and organizations which includes the allocation of funds and resources for club initiatives. FUSA is funded by and operated on activity fees paid by full-time students and is advised by the Office of Student Activities and Facilities. All full-time undergraduate students are members of and are represented by FUSA.
What is the Executive Branch?
The Executive Branch enacts the legislation passed by the FUSA Senate and programs events for the student body and university community. Through these actions, the Executive Branch creates a better learning, working and living environment. The Executive Branch is led by the popularly elected FUSA President and Vice President and includes the Executive Cabinet (Secretary of Communications, Secretary of Treasury, Secretary of Student Life, Secretary of Academics, Executive Director of Programming, and Student Organization Board of Governors (SOBOG) Chairperson) and the Class Council Representatives.
The Executive Director of Programming leads the Programming Board in planning events throughout the year including all major concerts, the Dogwoods semi-formal dance, The New York City Broadway Series, and free Thursday night bowling to name a few.

The SOBOG, lead by the Chairperson who directs the Board of Governors, is responsible for the allocation of funds to all student clubs and organizations on campus and the planning of activities fairs where students are invited to come and learn about all the possible ways they can get involved at Fairfield. SOBOG is also responsible for leading training workshops for all clubs and organizations on campus.
The Class Councils are composed of three officers (President, Vice President and Treasurer/Secretary) that are popularly elected by each class. Each Council utilizes their corresponding class Senators to plan class activities and discuss issues pertaining to their constituency. The primary objective of the Class Councils is to promote class unity and class identity.
What is the FUSA Senate?
The FUSA Senate is a popularly elected legislative body and is responsible for soliciting, deliberating upon and resolving the issues, needs and concerns of the Fairfield University undergraduate student body. The Senate consists of 40 popularly elected Senators, 10 from each class, led by an in-house elected Chair and Vice-Chair of Senate. The Senate also appoints a publicist(s) who is responsible for aiding the Senate in any form of publicity.
What is the Student Court?
The Student Court, led by the Chief Justice, is responsible for acting as a mediator in the event of disputes between different members and/or branches of FUSA, running the FUSA fall and spring election, and providing students an alternative venue for disciplinary hearings. Student Court is co-advised by the Office of Student Life and University Activities and the Office of the Dean of Students.
How can I get involved in FUSA?
There are so many ways to get involved in FUSA it all depends on what your interests are:
- You can run for positions such as the President of FUSA, Vice President of FUSA, class Senator, Class Council President, Vice President or Secretary/Treasurer in the general spring elections (the Freshmen elections for Class Senators and Class Councils are held in September).
- There are many appointed positions that you can apply for including the Executive Cabinet Positions, Programming Board Directors, Senate Publicist(s), and Student Court Justices.
- You can join the FUSA General Committee which is an unlimited group of students that help out with all the different branches of FUSA.
