Eligibility for Activities, Study Abroad, or Athletics

In order to hold leadership positions in student organizations, apply for or receive endorsement for study abroad programs, or be eligible for participation in varsity or club athletics, students must meet the minimum requirement of being in "good standing" at Fairfield University (e.g. not under academic or disciplinary probation). Programs or organizations may require more stringent or rigorous standards for eligibility provided there is good reason for the increased standards.

This policy is not implemented for the purpose of restricting student involvement or participation or limiting students' academic or co-curricular opportunities. Rather, it is intended to provide for the students' best interests, and in turn, the best interests of Fairfield University. For example, a student on academic probation must devote significant time and effort to address the pressing academic issues; attention to other activities which require a considerable amount of time or dedication are likely to distract from attention to academics. Similarly, a student on disciplinary probation has demonstrated an inability to adhere to certain standards of conduct. In such cases, a student may not possess the necessary skills to act responsibly in an independent setting (e.g. study abroad) or embody the values or behaviors expected of someone representing Fairfield University (e.g. student leadership positions or athletics).
