Italian Language Intensive I: Beginners

This intensive course is designed to provide students with the most basic skills needed for speaking, reading, listening and writing. Classes pay equal attention to the development of grammar and vocabulary in order to enable students to practice and use their Italian language skills during simple everyday situations and to hold basic conversations in a variety of simple situations.

Objective:
Grammar
- acquiring the basic structures of the language needed to make simple statements.
- simple grammatical structures and sentence patterns.

Vocabulary
- understanding and using the basic vocabulary regarding the concepts of space, time, quantity and quality.
- mastering the basic vocabulary necessary for the most common and concrete communicative situations.

Listening
- understanding the most commonly-used expressions in daily verbal communication, such a simple information and very brief dialogues, instructions addressed carefully and slowly.

Speaking
- using the most common colloquial expressions in daily social communication for self identification, greetings, asking for and giving basic information and ordering things.
- using the language in order to identify and describe (in limited terms) people and places.

Reading
- understanding simple texts for practical use, such as short messages.

Writing
- writing simple dictated texts.
- filling in forms where personal information is required, writing simple brief messages.

Requirements: This level is for absolute beginner students who have never studied Italian before.
