The course is designed for students who wish to begin the study of ancient Greek and who have no (or very little) experience of the language. The course starts with the alphabet and gives a thorough grounding in the language through the study of grammar and supportive readings. The set text for this course is: Maurice Balme and Gilbert Lawall (1995) Athenaze: An Introduction to Ancient Greek Student's Book I Revised Edition, Oxford University Press. This course would be suitable for students of philosophy, religion and history as well as classical studies majors.
