Art courses at MCAS embody the spirit and style of Italy. Courses focus on the special light in Sicily and the Mediterranean, and the effects that the sea, history, and diversity of cultures have had on the development of art, architecture, and the artist. Many lectures and lessons take place at the original sites and settings.
Science courses have been developed to take advantage of the ancient history of the Mediterranean, combined with Sicily's unique flora and fauna, and incredible geological phenomena of numerous islands and volcanoes. Science courses have a laboratory option consisting of field studies or actual laboratory work, and many include excursions to various parts of the island. The outstanding architectural sites on land and in the sea near Syracuse offer students an unmatched experience.
No other place in Europe has seen such a diversity of cultures come and go, and this has given birth to one of the most intriguing histories in the world. Courses analyze the story of the Mediterranean, its people, and their traditions. By the end of each term, students have an understanding of the significance of the ancient world and its role in today's society.
The school's Director works closely with students and assists them with academic issues that are common when studying abroad. The student advisor organizes and takes part in many of the social events planned for the term.
