Florence Program

University College at Fairfield University

I. Schedule (Itinerary is subject to change)

Sunday, August 31/ January 25
Depart for Italy. For your convenience, a group flight is available from JFK International Airport at a special rate through STA Travel. If you choose to take the group flight, you will be contacting our travel agent to purchase your ticket. Please note that the cost of airfare is NOT included in the program. Students are free to purchase airfare on their own if they wish. Students who travel independently will simply meet the group in Florence on Sept. 1 (fall) or Jan. 26 (spring); plan to arrive in Florence by noon.

Monday, September 1/January 26
Arrival in Florence; check-in at apartments. Time to meet your roommates and settle in; evening welcome reception.

Tuesday, September 2/ January 27
Orientation in Florence. Time will be focused on Fairfield University program, policies and procedures and finalizing paperwork. Students will become acquainted with the historic city center and learn about living in Florence (where to shop, local customs, etc.). Special attention will be given to safety, security and city living.

Wednesday, September 3/ January 28
Orientation in Florence. Students will be introduced to Florence University of the Arts and to academic programming. Discussions will cover: drop and add and final registration procedures, attendance and course requirements; placement tests. Students will also receive information regarding academic field trips and student services.

Thursday, September 4/January 29
Relax and get acquainted with your new Florentine "home." A late morning mandatory walking tour will assist in orienting students to the city. Later in the afternoon students will be accompanied to the scenic overlook at Piazzale Michelangelo where they can enjoy a gelato with program staff.

Friday, September 5/January 30
Depart Florence by private motorcoach for field trip to Assisi and Perugia; guided tour of Assisi and leisure time and overnight in Perugia. Assisi is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a trove of art treasures, including frescoes by Giotto.

Saturday, September 6/January 31
Breakfast, then departure for Siena and San Gimignano. We will finish our day with a visit to a winery and enjoy a typical Italian meal in a castle. Return to Florence after dinner.

Sunday, September 7/February 1
Day trip to Pisa and Viareggio. Morning departure to visit Pisa with its Campo dei Miracoli, including the leaning tower. Light lunch and leisure time in Viareggio, a famous seaside resort. In case of inclement weather Viareggio will be substituted with an afternoon visit of Lucca. Return to Florence in the evening.

Monday, September 8/February 2
Classes begin at Florence University of the Arts.

Friday, December 19/May 15
Last day of final exams.

Saturday, December 20/May 16
Apartment check-out and departure.

II. Cost

Comprehensive Package: $16,680

Program fees are paid in U.S. dollars. We may have to increase fees due to USD/Euro currency fluctuations. Once you are officially accepted into the program, your program fee, in USD, is guaranteed. Included in the package is:

  • Tuition for 15 undergraduate credits
  • Solid academic course offerings comparable to your home college
  • Organized services from application to completion, with friendly, reliable counseling
  • Dedicated on-site program director in Florence, providing personal assistance
  • Access to Fairfield University library holdings and services
  • Carefully selected living accommodations in clean, pleasant lodgings in the historic center of Florence.
  • Four-day orientation tour
  • Full calendar of activities and cultural events
  • Visa service for students attending schools in New England, New York state, and northern New Jersey
  • Insurance (including full medical coverage, medical emergency evacuation)
  • Group flight with airport pickup in Florence available at extra cost. Airport pickup is only available with group flight.

Additional Option:

Weekend excursions: approx. $350 each

Payment Schedule:

Application Fee: $75
Program deposit, due upon receipt of acceptance letter: $1,000
Final balance: due 60 days before group departure.

Housing deposit: $500 due 60 days before departure. Housing deposit of $450 refundable at end of program if no damages assessed. $50 cleaning fee non-refundable.

III. Deadlines

Early application is recommended.There are a limited number of spaces, and these are assigned through a rolling admissions process. In the past, our program has filled BEFORE the deadline; classes sometimes fill to capacity before deadline.

All students will be accepted on a space available basis. After deadline, call us for information.
