Florence Summer for Students from Other SchoolsFairfield University and Florence University of the Arts Through a direct academic affiliation with Florence University of the Arts, Fairfield University offers a complete undergraduate program. An international faculty teaching in English provides a challenging, stimulating, and enriching opportunity for a summer in Florence. Fairfield University is a fully accredited university and member of the New England Associate of Schools and Colleges, and a member of AACUPI, the American Association of Colleges and Universities in Italy. Students attending the Fairfield Program will receive a Fairfield University transcript with graded credit for courses completed. Virtually all American colleges and universities accept Fairfield university transfer credit. Students select two courses from the offerings at Florence University of the Arts. All courses are presented in English (except, of course, Italian language classes) by a talented and knowledgeable faculty. The faculty are credentialed practitioners in their fields. Italian language teachers are graduates of the University of Florence and have received specialized training in order to teach Italian to foreign students. Art educators are professional artists who are successfully working in their disciplines. Academic expectations are comparable to the requirements of a competitive American university. 
Eligibility A cumulative GPA of 2.8 is required for participation. Students should be at least 18 years of age, and should exhibit the maturity required to live independently in Florence. How to Apply

Students live in shared apartments in the historic center of Florence. Bedrooms are double-occupancy, and apartments range in size from one to five bedrooms, accommodating two to ten students. All apartments are furnished; bed linens are provided, and so are kitchen utensils so that you can cook your own meals. Your apartment will be within a 20-minute walk to school. Even a walk to classes becomes an adventure, inviting you to explore the many historic and artistic treasures you pass along the way.
In order to help you prepare for your summer in Florence, we have an extensive Orientation Manual that contains information on everything from visa requirements to housing to packing.

Air Travel
You may participate in the group flight offered by STA Travel. Airport pickup in Florence is provided for group flight participants.
You may also choose to make your own travel plans and meet the group in Florence. If you choose this option, you must plan to arrive on the same day as the group, by 2:00 p.m.
Fairfield University Staff in Florence
Fairfield University provides you with the special services of a caring professional staff in Florence. Joanne Maddux heads the Fairfield team in Florence. An American who came to Florence to study (and never left!), she has a true understanding of the study-abroad experience. She is the liaison between Florence University of the Arts and Fairfield, and performs executive functions related to the running of the program. Joanne will help you with academic advising and a host of other matters.
