The Major

The Religious Studies Department offers a major of 30 credits which include those credits earned to satisfy the requirements of the core curriculum. The major program, defined in consultation with a departmental advisor, is tailored to the individual's personal and academic interests. In a comprehensive program of studies, certain areas of concentration are possible such as Sacred Texts, Theolgy and Ethics, History and Tradition, Religion and Society, or Islam and Asian Religions; students will take at least one course in each area, regardless of concentration. Under special conditions and when resources are available, the department offers the Religious Studies major the possibility of pursuing an independent study in his or her senior year.
