Performance - Varsity Band

For information about varsity band, students are encouraged to contact Duane Melzer, Extension: 3119

The Fairfield University Varsity Band (MU 55 A) performs at all home women's and men's basketball games both on campus at the 2,500 seat Alumni Hall and at our off-campus home arena, the 10,000 Arena at Harbor Yard in Bridgeport. Additional performances include women's volleyball, men's soccer, and women's soccer. The ensemble travels with teams to several post season tournaments such as the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championships, The National Invitational Tournament (NIT), and the NCAA Championships.

This version of the Varsity Band, formerly the Pep Band, was started in 1997-1998 academic year and is currently comprised of approximately forty students performing on piccolo/flute, clarinet, alto sax, tenor sax, trumpet, horn/mellophone, trombone, baritone/euphonium, tuba, electric bass, electric guitar, electric violin, keyboard, drum set, percussion, and anything else we can think of. Membership is open, without auditions, to any student who has experience playing a musical instrument. Students need not major in music to participate. In fact most band members come from all six colleges at the University (College Arts and Sciences, School of Nursing, Charles F. Dolan School of Business, School of Engineering, University College, and the Graduate School of Education and Allied Professions). On average only one or two students per year are music majors.
