Music Education

Students who want to teach music to K-12 students can receive their certification at Fairfield. The requirements, which are set by the State of Connecticut, require students to complete a music major and an education minor.

Students interested in music education will need to schedule an audition as part of the admission process. Please contact Dr. Laura Nash, LNash@mail.fairfield.edu, to set up your audition.

The music major is:

MU 104 - Late Survey of Musical Styles
MU 122 - World Music Ensemble
One additional 100-level music history course
MU 150 - Theory and Composition I
MU 250 - Theory and Composition II
MU 301 - Independent Study in Conducting
MU 360 - Elementary General Music Methods
MU 361 - Choral Conducting Methods
MU 362 - Secondary Instrumental Methods
Practicum in all instrumental groups (up to 8 credits)
Piano until proficient
