6th Annual Student Leadership Awards Ceremony

This annual ceremony provides the Fairfield community with a unique and enjoyable opportunity to recognize and thank the student leaders who have made the year such a success through their outstanding record of leadership, mentorship, and stewardship. This year the 6th Annual Student Leadership Awards Ceremony will take place on Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at 7:30 p.m. in the Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts. We hope that you will join us for this empowering evening of student leader recognition.

New to the awards ceremony this year, we will be recognizing two students and one student group through these University-wide leadership awards. Please direct any questions to Tyler McClain.

UnSung Hero and Student Employee Awards

  • Unsung Hero Award
    • Undergraduate student in a degree program currently enrolled in at least 6 credits
    • In good standing with the University
    • Two consecutive semesters of involvement in co-curricula student organization(s) or Club(s)
    • Student makes significant contribution to their club/organization
    • Student moves the group forward in its goals or mission
    • Student's contribution makes a positive impact on the University community
    • Student contributes long hours of service to the group
    • Student demonstrates outstanding leadership skills, motivated, enthusiastic, self-reliant, problem-solver, good manager, good organizer, courageous, honest, credible, focused, empowers others, inspires shared vision, etc
    • Student does not have to hold a specific leadership position in the group
  • Student Employee Award
    • Undergraduate student in a degree program currently enrolled in at least 6 credits
    • In good standing with the University
    • Student must be salaried employee working on campus (work study or institutional pay)
    • Student must have worked for at least one semester by December 2013 and for more than four hours per week
    • Student makes a significant contribution to work environment and moves group forward in goals and mission
    • Student's work contribution makes a positive impact on the University community
    • Student demonstrates excellent or outstanding employment traits such as honesty, credibility, punctuality, focus, responsibility, professionalism, strong conflict management skills, organizational skills, and supervisory skills
    • Student consistently provides quality service to others

Nominations for Program of the Year are Due: Friday, April 4

  • Program of the Year Award
    • This award has been established to encourage and promote the development of excellence in programming. The award is given to the student group that has been innovative in the development, implementation and delivery of a successful program which is being recognized as the most outstanding program of the year.
    • All activities of recognized undergraduate student groups are eligible to apply and receive awards
    • All student groups must be in good standing with the the University
    • Nominations can be submitted by an individual or a student group
    • The committee will evaluate each entry form using the following criteria based on student group's activity since August 2013: Contributes to and serves the Fairfieldcommunity, creativity, and the impact the program has on the Fairfield University community.
        • Nominations should include the following information and be submitted to Tyler McClain by Friday, April 4 in the Kelley Center West
          • Name of Student Group
          • Nominator's Name
            1. Name of program being nominated
            2. Number of people in attendance
            3. How was this program creative?
            4. Describe how the club or organization went about planning and organizing the program. What resources were used?
            5. In what ways was the program promoted on campus?
            6. How was this program received by the campus (attendance, audience reaction, etc.)?
            7. In what ways did this program contribute to campus life at Fairfield?
          • A “year in review” document needs to be submitted for this student group with emphasis on your campus program.

Council of Student Organizations (COSO) Awards (Nominations will be accepted through Sunday, April 6.)

Outstanding Advisor of the Year

  • This Award is presented to and recognizes a club or organization advisor whose outstanding service and contributions to the club or organization and Fairfield University exceeds the expectations given to advisors. This commitment can come through the form of meaningful contributions of time, energy, service, and resources as well as a promotion of academic and extracurricular excellence to the students they work alongside.

Student Organization of the Year

  • This award has been established to acknowledge and recognize the student organization that has had the most impact and made significant contributions to the Fairfield University community. 

New Student Organization of the Year

  • This award has been established to acknowledge and recognize a new student organization that has had the most impact on Fairfield University during its first year on campus. 

Outstanding Co-Sponsorship of the Year

  • This award recognizes the best collaborative effort among student organizations. This award is a testimony that the collective whole can yield the greatest results. Collaborative efforts can be achieved with other student organizations, university departments and offices.
