About Reserve Services

The DiMenna-Nyselius Library offers both traditional (In Library) and electronic reserve (ERes) services.

In Library Reserves:
Traditional reserve services are offered within the library building, at the Reserve desk, where students can consult print or audio-visual materials that are in heavy demand for their classes. With your StagCard, course materials are available when the library is open. A Traditional Reserves Policy is available for your information.

Several types of materials can be placed on traditional reserve in the library, including print books, photocopies of articles and book chapters, and media materials such as DVDs, CDs, Videos, and CD-ROMs. The reserve department will also place on reserve professors' personal copies in addition to library-owned materials.

ERes (Electronic Reserves):
With a password, electronic reserve course materials are accessible 24 hours a day via the ERes website. An Electronic Reserves Policy is available for your information.

Items eligible for electronic reserve status include book chapters, articles, images, links to online resources, and faculty-generated documents such as course syllabi, lecture notes, websites, PowerPoint presentations, Excel spreadsheets, and Microsoft word documents.

Student Access

In Library Reserves:
Students should inquire at the Library Reserve Desk to access materials that their professors have placed on reserve.

To find out what items are available on reserve in the library, go to the Library Home Page and click on the Course Reserves tab, then In-Library Course Reserves. Locate items by typing in your instructor's last name, course name, or course ID.

Once a reference to an item of interest is located, students should give the call number to the desk assistant, who will retrieve the item and check it out to the student.

Most reserve materials are for in-library use only and are checked out for four hours at a time; however, other loan periods may be arranged at the professor's discretion.

If a media item has been placed on reserve, information about media viewing equipment can be found on the Library Media Department's Web page.

ERes (Electronic Reserves):

  1. Electronic Reserves can be accessed by going to the Library Home Page, clicking on the Course Reserves tab and then ERes.
  2. Once on the Eres home page, click on the link that says "Electronic Reserves and Reserves Pages."
  3. Click on "Course Reserves Pages by Instructor." Select your instructor's name, and click on "View."
  4. Click on the hyperlinked course number.
  5. Type in the secret course password that your professor gave you, read the copyright information, and click on the gray "Accept" button if you choose to continue.
  6. Now you should be in the course page. You'll see the items your professor wants you to access listed there.
  7. Click on the document title, then again on the document itself. You should now be able to open, read, save or print the document.

If you have trouble viewing or printing documents, please contact the Access Services Librarian, Elise Bochinski, for assistance: (203) 254-4000 ext. 2892. Sylvia Hurlburt, the Media/Reserves Assistant, can also help: (203) 254-4000 ext. 2234.
