- What is StagPrint?
StagPrint refers to the new printing system installed at the main printing locations throughout campus: Bannow 124 Mac Lab; Canisius 2 Mac Lab; Donnarumma 149 PC Lab; DSB 1100 and 1101 PC Labs; Barone Campus Center Laptops; Regis Hall PC Lab; Dolan Hall PC Lab; Apartments PC Lab; Library Lab 115, Lab 250 and the Library's Information Commons.
StagPrint is Fairfield's effort to promote responsible printing and to conserve resources by controlling laser-printing use, waste, and rising costs.
- Alternatives to StagPrint
- Save your documents to a disk and print out at home.
- E-mail yourself the document and print out at home.
- Use 'print preview' or 'make it fit' function before printing out.
- How does StagPrint Work?
The StagPrint printing system is comprised of several components: a user workstation, a print queue, print release stations, and printers. The number of release stations and printers will vary between locations. Begin by selecting the print command in the application that you are using. You will be prompted to enter your StagCard ID for your print request, and your print job will be automatically linked to your StagCard user account.
In the StagPrint System, there is one Print Release Station associated with each physical printer. After you select the print command you will be prompted with a "Popup" asking your StagCard ID. Your print job is then sent to a print queue, which resides in the StagPrint System. You will have to walk over to the StagPrint Release Station and swipe your StagCard and find your job on the screen. Select your job you want to print by following the instruction on the screen. The cost of your print job will be debited from your StagPrint copy account, or from your StagBucks account from your StagCard or Visitor Card, and your document will be printed.
- Who can use StagPrint?
Students will receive $25.00 value in their StagPrint account for each fall or spring semester. Part time students will receive $5.00 copies per course in their StagPrint account.
Faculty who use StagPrint locations for research or classes may request a StagPrint account by completing the online form. Requests will be processed by the end of the next business day.
Administrators/staff should use their office resources for business-related laser printing.
Visitors to the university wishing to print via StagPrint can purchase a Visitor card at the Value Transfer Station (VTS) located in the Library's Weil Café. - What do I do if I do not have a StagCard?
Visit the VTS (Value Transfer Station) machine located in the Library café to purchase a Visitor Card. Cards have an initial cost of $1.00 for purchase, and then value must be added.
- When did StagPrint begin?
The Labs and the Library began debiting on Monday, September 22, 2003.
- How will I benefit from the implementation of this system?
Each day, thousands of sheets of paper are printed on the Fairfield University campus. We estimate that up to 50% of the pages printed end up in the recycling bin. In the library alone, over 800,000 pages were used last year. Like gas prices, the costs of paper, toner, printers, and support staff to maintain the printers-are increasing. Significant amounts of university resources were being spent toward keeping the recycling bins filled with paper. StagPrint will help defray the cost of printing, making it possible to use more dollars for new and lasting information resources for the Fairfield University Community.
- How will the University benefit from using StagPrint?
There are three main benefits StagPrint brings to campus:
- Reduce Printing Waste
- Improve Print Services
- Use recovered costs to provide more lasting resources
- How am I debited for printing?
Each registered full-time student receives a $25.00 StagCard value, called the StagPrint account, on his/her StagCard for each fall or spring semester. Part-time students receive $5.00 per registered course on his/her StagCard. Contact the StagCard office with your course registration receipt if you are taking more than 1 course so that additional copy credit may be applied. This allocation is provided for each fall or spring semester and will be reset on the first day of next semester. Unused allocations do not carry over from each semester and are non-transferable to other cardholders.
University Policy states that each copy is debited at a value of $0.10 per sheet of paper when using single-page printing, $0.14 per sheet of paper for duplex (double-sided) printing, i.e. 7¢ for each side, $0.25 for color printing (color printing available at the Information Commons in the library only). The cost of your job will be debited from your StagPrint account or your StagBucks account (either on your personal StagCard or Visitor Card). This value is subject to change and the management and administration of Fairfield University may alter printing policies at any time.
If an allocation is depleted, copies will be debited from the cardholder's StagBucks account. Additional funds can be added to the StagBucks account at various locations across campus and online.
- How do I determine how many pages will be debited when I print?
Each page of your document costs is debited for one copy. There are two ways to determine the total value of a print job, through Print Preview or at the Print Release Station.
You can utilize the print preview option to view the pages of your document. The print preview screen will provide you with a page count, and allow you to select which pages you would like to print. To determine the value of your job simply count the number of pages you wish to print. For example a 5 page document would be debited 5 copies. At the Print Release Station, you will be prompted to either login, or swipe your StagCard or Visitor Card. After doing so, use the mouse to select your print job from the list of print jobs displayed on the Print Release Stations. When your job is highlighted, you will see the page count in the lower left hand corner of the screen. You will always be provided with the page count and the amount that you will be debited prior to printing your document. Click "Print" to print out the jobs you have selected.
- How do I send a job to the printer?
Just as you normally would have in the past. However, under this system there are 3 more simple steps that you need to complete. Enter your StagCard ID in the Popup window and then when you are at the Print Release Station, swipe your StagCard or Visitor Card and select your print job and release it.
- How do I print selected pages of a document, rather than printing extra pages that I might not need?
Utilize the Print Preview function. To do this, select the "Print Preview" command from your web browser's file menu. Determine which pages you wish to print by viewing the entire document in the preview screen. For e-journals in which "Print Preview" is not active, view the thumbnail images to select pages.
From file menu, select "Print," and enter the number or range of pages you'd like to print in the "Page Range" section.
Verify the number of pages in the print queue at the Print Release Station prior to releasing your print job from the StagPrint system.
- What is print preview and why should I use it?
In most applications print preview is available. This allows you to see how your document will print out. Using this option will save you copies and often will prevent you from having blank pages print out.
- Why must I enter my StagCard ID?
You enter your StagCard ID so that you see your own print job only, and the cost of your job will be debited automatically from your StagCard user account.
- What happens if I make a mistake? Will I be debited?
Yes. Whenever the system permits, you should preview your work by using the browser's Print Preview capability before sending it for printing. It is your responsibility to do so to determine if there are problems. If you are having trouble using the system, please go to one of the public access desks.
