All About Books

If you can't find a specific book, try this:

  • If a book isn't in the Fairfield University catalog, search WorldCat and request the book from another library. Just click on the Interlibrary Loan button.
  • In a rush? If you would like to try to go to a local library, you can search ReQuest to search just the libraries in Connecticut.
  • Contact John Cayer, Jcayer@mail.fairfield.edu, Interlibrary Services, ext. 2135 with questions.

If you can't find books on your topic, try this:

  • Try expanding your search by making it more general or adding more terms with OR.
  • Remember, when  you're searching the library catalog, think about searching for books on the general subject rather than on your very specific topic.
    • For example, if your topic is the effects of caffeine on kittens,
      • a good search of the library catalog would be:
        cats AND (health OR behavior)
      • a not so good search of the library catalog would be: effect of caffeine on kittens

Looking for a textbook?

  • The library does not generally buy or own textbooks because...
    • the editions change so often
    • only one student in a class could use the book at a time
