Image: BodytrafficBODYTRAFFIC, the young, Los Angeles-based contemporary repertory company at the forefront of today's concert dance world, performs at Fairfield University's Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts at 8 p.m., Saturday, February 8, 2014. A post-performance Question & Answer session with the company follows the performance on the Quick Center stage. Media sponsor is Morris Media. Tickets are $45, $35 and $30.

In less than a decade, BODYTRAFFIC has convincingly won over audiences throughout the country with its dynamic theatricality and fresh vitality as it commissions and performs works by today's most distinctive contemporary choreographers. The company was founded by Lillian Rose Barbeito and Tina Finkelman Berkett in 2007, and since that time, has helped establish Los Angeles as a major center for contemporary dance. Named Dance Magazine's "25 to Watch in 2013," the young company is constantly being recognized for its high quality of work. The New York Times' Brian Seibert wrote in a June 2012 review: "On Wednesday at the Joyce Theater the Gotham Dance Festival offered New York something that its dance audiences (and critics) rarely see: signs of life from the Los Angeles dance scene." And the Los Angeles Times' Laura Bleiberg called BODYTRAFFIC "one of the most talked-about young companies, not just in L.A. but nationwide."

The program for BODYTRAFFIC's appearance at the Quick Center will feature "Kollide" (2013), by Kyle Abraham, the young award-winning choreographer, who was a 2013 MacArthur Fellow, 2012 Jacob's Pillow Dance Award recipient, and 2012 U.S.A. Ford Fellow. The work blends elements of ballet and hip hop in a fluid, sensual style, and was underwritten by Nathan and Karen Sandler. Also on the program is Richard Siegal's "o2Joy" (2012), an exuberant homage to American jazz standards set to the music of Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Glenn Miller, and other jazz greats. And the program's "Beyond the Edge of the Frame" (2013), is choreographed by Sidra Bell, currently a Master Lecturer at the University of the Arts (Philadelphia).

BODYTRAFFIC has performed throughout the United States and in Canada. In June 2012, the company made its Joyce Theater (NYC) debut; in September 2013, BODYTRAFFIC made its Walt Disney Concert Hall debut, at the Los Angeles Philharmonic's Opening Night Gala performance conducted by Gustavo Dudamel; and, this past summer marked the company's Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival debut. Most recently, it presented two sold-out programs at Santa Monica's Broad Stage.

BODYTRAFFIC's Co-Artistic Director Lillian Rose Barbeito has had an extensive performance career and has taught internationally. She is one of 15 teachers in the world who is certified to teach Anouk van Dijk's groundbreaking Countertechnique. She has choreographed over 50 works and is currently a Visiting Assistant Professor at Loyola Marymount University. Co-Artistic Director/Performer Tina Finkelman Berkett was a member of Aszure Barton & Artists and performed with the company throughout the United States, including at Jacob's Pillow and Spoleto Festivals. She became Aszure Barton's assistant and taught alongside Barton both in the U.S. and abroad. She was also a founding member of Mikhail Baryshnikov's Hell's Kitchen Dance.
