Softball sweeps MAAC weekly awards
Three Fairfield University softball student-athletes received weekly honors from the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC). Freshman Kristen Filicia earned her first accolade from the conference as the player of the week, while Lauren Liseth secured her third rookie of the week. Senior Sarah Minice picked up the conference's pitcher of the week.
Filicia batted .529 for the week as the team's lead-off hitter as the Stags posted a 4-2 record. She had at least one hit in all six games and recorded three games with two hits. Filicia stroke one double, which came against Manhattan, and stole six bases. In four conference games, she batted .500 with five steals and five runs scored.
Liseth owned a .350 batting average for the week, and a .462 mark against MAAC opponents. For the week, she secured seven hits and eight RBI with a double and a triple in six starts. Against the conference, Liseth tallied two triples and five RBI with a .769 slugging percentage and a .462 on-base percentage. She was perfect in the field, handling all 47 chances in the six games.
Minice won both of her starts last week, including a five-inning perfect game against Saint Peter's. She also tossed a three-hitter against Manhattan, yielding just one earned run in 12 innings. Minice struck out 13 Manhattan hitters and eight Peanhen batters for 21 total strikeouts in 12 innings pitched. She also yielded one walk in her 12 innings and owned a 0.58 ERA for the week.
Fairfield, under Head Coach Julie Brzezinski, remains the first-place team in the MAAC with a 10-2 record and has posted a 26-18 overall record. The team returns to action this week by heading to Quinnipiac University for a single game on Thursday before playing its final home games of the season with a doubleheader against Niagara on Saturday.
