Stags to host Kent State in NIT second round Sunday at 12:30
With its win over Colorado State University in the first round of the 2011 National Invitational Tournament (NIT) the Fairfield University men's basketball team will host Kent State University in the second round of the NIT this weekend. The game will be played on Sunday, March 20 at 12:30 p.m. at Webster Bank Arena at Harbor Yard. The game will air live on ESPNU.
Fairfield earned its second NIT victory in program history on Tuesday night with a thrilling 62-60 win over Colorado State on the road. The win over Colorado State was the team's 25th this season, setting a school record for most wins in a season. The previous record stood at 24 wins, accomplished by the 1985-86 season. The decision was the team's first NIT win since the 1973 tournament when Fairfield outlasted Marshall University.
Kent State enters the game with a 24-11 overall record after capturing its second straight Mid-America Conference regular season title. The Golden Flashes advanced to the NIT second round after beating second-seeded St. Mary's College on Tuesday night.
