University College holds Open Registration August 25 for Lifelong Learning Program

University College at Fairfield University announces Open Registration Day for the Fall 2009 semester of the Lifelong Learning Program on Tuesday, Aug. 25 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at University College's David J. Dolan House. Membership in this dynamic group is open to the intellectually curious over age 50.

As a member of this learning driven community, one can expect to explore the world of arts and humanities through monthly symposia featuring distinguished members of the Fairfield University faculty that take place in settings throughout the university. Lifelong Learning symposia occur on the second Thursday of the fall and spring semester months. This fall, symposia will include lectures by Ed Deak, professor of economics, on the U.S. economy in the global context and by Rick DeAngelis, adjunct professor of history, on Afghanistan. Two additional lectures will also be announced. In addition, members have the privilege of auditing one undergraduate course each semester that generally meets once a week from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Fairfield University's strategic vision stresses the importance of "integration" as a way of approaching education. This year, the Fairfield community has selected three areas on which to focus major academic and cultural enrichment programming: Latin America - Images, Dialogue and Action; The R&J Project: Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet"; Communities in Action: A year of activism.

With an eclectic choice of lectures and visual and performing arts planned for the 2009-10 season, many of which are part of the areas of focus, access to these events will be in great demand. Discounted tickets to Open VISIONS Forum and select Quick Center for the Arts performances will be made available to Lifelong Learning members.

The program cost is $230 per semester. A spouse's fee is $205. If you are unable to attend the Open Registration Day on Tuesday, Aug. 25, please call (203) 254-4000, ext. 4110. For more information, please visit the website at www.fairfield.edu/ll.
