University College at Fairfield University stands ready with tools for advancement for HR professionals
In these uncertain times, knowledge is power. University College at Fairfield University in partnership with the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) announces two timely courses for Human Resources Professionals: PHR/SPHR Crash Course, Saturdays May 2 and May 9 from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. and SHRM Essentials, Friday, June 5 and Saturday, June 6 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
For those who plan to apply for the PHR/SPHR exam (deadline to apply is April 17), this Crash Course is designed to provide all the knowledge candidates will need to pass the exam.
The instructor, Ray LaManna, SPHR, is an adjunct professor at Fairfield University and is the founder and owner of a successful consulting firm specializing in organizational and management issues. A former student and employee of Casey Family Services spoke highly of the course, "Our instructor kept us engaged. The information was very beneficial towards my career." LaManna's students have consistently earned over an 80% pass rate on the PHR/SPHR examinations, considerably higher than the national average of 64%. Tuition is $325 and does not cover the exam fee.
The second course, SHRM Essentials, is designed for certified professionals needing recertification hours, entry-level HR professionals, the small business owner who cover many bases in his or her company and the inevitable number of individuals interested in HR as a career-change possibility.
The six learning modules cover a broad spectrum of important information in:

- Employment law
- Recruitment and selection
- Compensation and benefits
- Employee development
- Performance management
Tuition is $499 and includes SHRM Essentials of HR Management Certificate Program manual, glossary and index as well as Participant's Activities Book and 12 hours of classroom instruction. Registration deadline is May 28, 2009.
