Fairfield University's Studio Art Program presents Creative Scape - an exhibition opening April 14
The Studio Art Program at Fairfield University presents the annual exhibition of junior and senior artwork - "Creative Scape" - opening Tuesday, April 14 with an opening reception from 5:00-7:00 p.m. in the Loyola Gallery in Loyola Hall. The exhibition continues until May 6. Admission is free.
At the foundation of the studio art program is the philosophy that art is something that is lived as well as created and artists can contribute to society in multiple ways.
The thirteen exhibiting junior and senior studio art majors have spent several years working to develop the core visual elements of composition, perception, abstraction and concept. At this stage in their artistic development, they have the opportunity to exhibit the results of their interpretive and conceptual progress in disciplines of their own choosing: installations, painting, photography, printmaking and sculpture.
University College student Kathryn Sorrentino, a studio art and English major, continues work that was inspired by the 1994 Genocide of Rwanda Africa. Sorrentino, who began her work in an earlier exhibition, recently described her installation with her artist's statement: "My artwork reflects people who were killed, those who were left to tell the story and how the story of Rwanda continues."
Studio art and new media major and Phi Beta Kappa senior, Kathleen Reilly exhibits an installation of an expressionistic portion of the set she designed for the film she wrote, directed and filmed as a capstone project.
Other students participating in the exhibition are Molly Galterio, Brian Hekker, Simone Jadczak, Nicole Namy, Anthony Nicoletti, Dominique Asnault, Stefanie Bain, Steph Burr, Sarah Dowers, Max Farinato and Alessandra Florenza.
The program in Studio Art in the Department of Visual and Performing Arts focuses on students' creative inquiry in ways that guide the development of a personal vision and the ability to envision a future.
Gallery hours are Monday-Wednesday 10-4:30 p.m., Thursday 9:30-11:30 a.m., closed weekends.
