On June 2-3, 2015, RJSJ, in partnership with the President’s Institutional Diversity Council (PIDC), the Division of Student Affairs, the Center for Academic Excellence, and the Office of SVPAA Babington will sponsor a workshop designed to engage our faculty*, staff and students in conversation. The primary goal of the workshop is to talk about how we can create a campus climate that embraces and celebrates diversity, and welcomes all students and university employees to a community in which they are respected and valued. In addition to these conversations, participants will break into working groups focused on producing tangible outcomes from the list of projects identified by our RJSJ taskforce. Outcomes may include •developing student learning outcomes for the diversity requirements and other course •collaborate on creating an interdisciplinary syllabus for a new “Black Lives Matter” course (see model from Georgetown). •work toward a greater understanding of how racial identity and racial injustice impacts students in their lives outside of the classroom •identify resources to address racial injustice and its impact on student life on campus •identify and discuss areas within the co-curriculum where learning outcomes relative to racial justice and white privilege can be addressed
