Dr. Barbara L. Welles-Nystrom

Barbara L. Welles-Nystrom has joined the Fairfield University community after having lived the past twenty years in Stockholm, Sweden. There she was a researcher and teacher in the Division of Reproductive and Perinatal Health Care, working with midwives in the Department of Women and Child Health at the Karolinska Institutet. Barbara speaks Swedish fluently and has been involved in research on the earliest years of development. At Fairfield she is directing the development of a new Early Childhood Education Master's Program. This initiative will highlght the physical as well as social and cognitive growth of young children, as well as focus on parenting and family life in diverse cultures.
Barbara is the Liason for the Early Learning Center on campus, collaborating with staff to develop educational programs for the children and information for parents.
Dr. Welles-Nystrom's own family situation is Swedish-American: her husband Sven is still residing in Sweden, as is their daughter, Julia. Eric, is currently a part-time student at University College at Fairfield University, residing in Brooklyn. The entire family gets together in Stockholm for the Christmas holidays and summer vacation. Modern life allows such interesting solutions.....
