The creative struggle of Brian Wilson

Brian Torff, professor of music and a noted jazz bassist, talked with CNN's Todd Leopold about Beach Boy Brian Wilson's composing skills: "The thing that was great about 'Pet Sounds' is here was a guy who could craft something that was almost symphonic. Before the Beatles, before 'Sgt. Pepper's,' he was already doing incredible things ... really expanding the boundaries of what rock and pop music could be."

Summer Jazz Workshop performance at Fairfield University

The Jazz Workshop Concert, a program of University College at Fairfield University, showcased talented young musicians. The Jazz Workshop director is Brian Torff, a faculty member. The segment included interviews and a performance that featured the youngsters playing alto sax,tenor sax, viola, baritone sax, trumpet and guitar.

Django 100: Centennial tour celebrates legendary guitarist

From the United States, esteemed bassist Brian Torff will anchor the group ... A fixture in the quintet, renowned bassist Torff currently teaches in Connecticut at Fairfield University. In addition to playing with Django 100, he regularly performs in the New York-New England area.

Jazz bassist Brian Torff is 'In Love With Voices'

Torff recounts his life in music in the recently published "In Love with Voices: A Jazz Memoir" (iUniverse, $18.95). He performs and, since 1993, teaches at Fairfield University, where he helped set up the jazz curriculum.

Arts Center opens photo exhibit by jazz great Milt Hinton

The exhibition, concert, and film screening began with a suggestion from Torff that there be a Center tribute to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Hinton's birth in 2010. According to Torff, "Milt Hinton was a friend and mentor to countless musicians, myself included."
