Current Research Interests

Dr. Simon's teaching and research interests include news reporting, writing and editing; environmental journalism; political communication and public opinion; and technological innovation in the classroom.

He was named national journalism "Teacher of the Year" in 2003 by a division of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication. AEJMC's Small Program Interest Group (115 members) cited his innovative teaching and his efforts to construct a model small college journalism program.

  Dr. Simon has extensive experience in writing and lecturing about politics, the news media, public opinion and environmental issues. He has been a frequent guest on public affairs shows on television and radio and has served as a market research consultant for public and private clients in Arizona, California and Connecticut. He is the co-author of the book, Environment Reporters in the 21st Century (Transaction; 2010). He is the author of scholarly research articles published in such journals as Political Communication. Public Understanding of Science, and Science Communication, and he serves on the editorial board of journals like The Newspaper Research Journal. He resides in Stratford CT with his wife, Karen, and son, Christopher.
