Fairfield University English professor Richard Regan said that "In Flanders Fields" is moving because it's understated. "In poetry, less is usually more," Regan said. "If the writer holds back the emotion, then the reader supplies it, and it's always much more deeply felt. When the writer gushes all over the place, the effect just isn't the same."
