The MinorThe requirements for a 15-credit minor in Latin American and Caribbean studies are the following:
1. Language Proficiency
Student may demonstrate language proficiency in several ways:
- Student passes the Fairfield University Placement Test in French, Portuguese, or Spanish, and is waived to taking a language skills course.

Student takes 1 to 2 language skills courses. The following are acceptable:
- Students takes SP 122 (min. grade B) and one of either SP 221 or SP 222 or SP 262.
- Student takes FR 122 (min. grade B) and one of either FR 221 or FR 222.
- Student takes one to two skills courses in Portuguese, that are accepted by the department.
- Student takes one of SP 221, SP 222, SP 262, FR 221, FR 222.
2. Electives
- Students who demonstrate proficiency with two language skills courses must complete 2 electives.
- Students who demonstrate proficiency with one skills courses must complete 3 electives.
- Students who demonstrate proficiency passing the Fairfield University Placement Test must complete 4 electives.
Note: Students may take a maximum of TWO elective courses in any one discipline including French, Spanish, and Portuguese. When students have taken two required skills language courses, they cannot count any language elective course. When students have taken language skill course, they may count one language elective course.
3. Capstone Requirement
All students must complete a Capstone course selected from LAC 300, 301,302 or the cross-listed EV/LAC/AE 384.
*Students may count courses taken for the Latin American and Caribbean Studies minor toward their core course or major program requirements. |
