Faifield University Model UN
High School Conference 2008

Welcome to the fifth annual Fairfield University Model United Nations High School Conference. The conference is a fantastic way to involve High School students in global discussions. The one-day conference takes place at Fairfield's campus, and is organized and chaired by Fairfield's Model UN team.

This year the conference will be held November 21, 2008.

Committees

The United Nations Peace Building Commission - This committee will focus on two topics: Security Sector Reform and the conflict in Darfur.

Special Session of the United Nations Human Rights Council - The Human Rights Council will be discussing the human rights issues in Tibet.

European Union (EU)- Delegates will be discussing the conflict in Kosovo and the legitimacy of Kosovar independence.

World Bank - For the World Bank Committee, delegates will have to submit a loan proposal to the Board of Governors. Each country will present their proposal and the Board (each participant will be a Governor) will hear the proposal and will debate on whether to accept, decline, or postpone the proposals.

The Organization of American States (OAS) - The Organization of American States will be discussing the conflict between Ecuador, Colombia, and Venezuela that recently brought them to the brink of war.

Chinese, United States and Russian Cabinets - These committees work as a joint simulation. The three powers will interact in the context of avoiding the next world war. Each cabinet will act independently, but will be aware of actions taken by the other two, therefore requiring ad-hoc decision making.
