Dr. Iris Bork-Goldfield
Associate Director of International Studies
Dr. Iris Bork-Goldfield is associate director of international studies, academic advisor for study abroad, and an adjunct professor of German. She is originally from Hamburg, Germany. She received her M.A. and her Ph.D. in German, with minors in modern German literature and American studies from the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität in Munich, Germany. She has published two books, one on understanding German prose in China, and the other on the image of Germany and Germans in American history textbooks throughout the 20th century. She also co-authored and taught an online graduate course on writing in the German classroom. She wrote numerous articles on teaching German culture, literature and film. She is currently working on collecting works by "foreign" German writers.
Dr. Bork-Goldfield is involved in Fairfield's Oral Practice Language (OPS) program and serves as an advisor to the German Club.
Dr. Bork-Goldfield advises foreign students who study at Fairfield, and is in charge of IREX exchange students and JFDP scholars from Eurasia. Since 2006, she has been on the national IREX selection committee and helps select students who have applied to study for a year at an American college or university. She has traveled and worked all over the world, including England, Israel, India, China, and Russia.
