Dr. Dina Franceschi
Dina Franceschi, Ph.D., University of Tennessee, 1999, specializes in environmental economics. Her past and present work focuses on sustainable development strategies for developing nations. She works primarily on Latin America, specifically in Brazil on sustainability in Amazonia. Her most recent publications include, "Beyone Kyoto: A tax-based system for the global reduction of greenhouse gas emissions," with Jim Kahn, in Ecological Economics, July 2006 and "Externalities in International Trade: The Case for Differential Tariffs," with Mark Leclair, in Ecological Economics, June 2006. Dr. Franceschi teaches in both the economics and international studies programs at Fairfield and contributes to the Asian Studies, Latin American and Caribbean Studies, and Program on the Environment curricula. She is currently serving as co-Director for the Program on the Environment and the Green Movement on campus. She has been involved with several student-centered and administrative initiatives including furthering the University's partnership with the Universidade Centroamericana in Nicaragua. She has been awarded several external and internal grants for international, environmental projects on campus, including two from the Department of Education to encourage student study abroad in Brazil. Dina lives in Monroe, Conn. with her husband, Doug McCarthy, who works for the World Wrestling Entertainment, Inc., and her two sons, Jake, 6 and Will, 3.
