Adjunct Faculty, Economics

The Department of Economics at Fairfield University invites applications for adjunct positions beginning in fall of 2013. Applicants are expected to have an advanced degree in economics; PhD or ABD preferred. Appropriate professional experience a plus. Successful applicant will have some evidence of teaching effectiveness. Courses meet two or three times per week. Office space and access to a computer provided.

The Department is primarily interested in adjunct faculty who can offer the microeconomics and macroeconomics principles sequence. Applicants who have the expertise to offer specialized upper-division courses will also be considered. Openings exist for both day and evening courses at the undergraduate level.

Visiting Assistant Professor of Professional Writing

Fairfield University, Department of English, invites applications for a one-year visiting faculty position (non-tenure track, with possibility of renewal for up to three years) at the rank of assistant professor, beginning September 2013. We seek candidates with specialization in professional writing. Customary teaching load for visiting faculty is 4-4; some reassigned time will be considered for administrative duties.

The successful hire will teach in areas directly related to professional writing (e.g., business writing, technical writing, writing for non-profits, science writing, gender and technology, technical editing, global business communication), plus one course per year in first-year composition. In addition, the successful hire is expected to provide high-quality academic and career advising. Applicants with experience in service learning and/or writing program administration are preferred.

Required qualifications: Ph.D. in technical communication, rhetoric, or a closely related discipline; ABD considered with substantial industry experience and/or relevant teaching and publication record. Demonstrated effectiveness in teaching is required, as is a sincere desire to mentor/advise undergraduate students.

Visiting Assistant Professor of Spanish

Visiting Assistant Professor of Spanish Linguistics and/or Second Language Acquisition; Ph.D. in hand at time of application preferred; MA plus experience required. We are seeking a candidate with evidence of excellence in teaching elementary and intermediate Spanish Language and in an area of specialty. Specialty area in at least one of the following, in addition to Second Language Acquisition: learning outcomes assessment, applied linguistics, computer-assisted language learning, and/or language methodology. Publications in the field and demonstrable interest in curricular development highly desirable. Ability to teach upper-division courses in Peninsular culture and literature a plus. Familiarity with ACTFL guidelines, experience in teaching or researching language methodology and using technology in the curriculum highly desirable. ACTFL OPI certification in Spanish desirable. Teaching load: 4-4.

Responsiveness to student needs and effective communication skills are expected. Appreciation of or experience in expansion of campus diversity and multiculturalism would be viewed favorably.

Assistant/Associate Professor Childhood Education

The Graduate School of Education and Allied Professions (GSEAP) at Fairfield University invites applications for a tenure-track position as Assistant/Associate Professor and Director of Childhood Education.

The Childhood Education Program, located within the Department of Educational Studies & Teacher Preparation, prepares K-6 teachers to create and sustain exemplary learning environments and to advocate for quality education for all learners. Candidates can earn their Master's and certification in Elementary Education through the post-baccalaureate Master's degree pro­gram or through the new Five-Year Integrated Bachelor's-Master's degree program. A certificate of completion is available in Early Childhood Education.

Applicants for the position must hold or have earned a doctorate by September 1, 2013 in Elementary Education or a related field and be eligible for appointment as an assistant/associate professor based on prior university teaching, scholarship and service, or upon extraordinary qualifications in non-university based leadership in elementary education or related field, including scholarly publications. Areas of expertise should include one or more of the following: integrative literacy practices, math or science education, inclusive curriculum and pedagogy, or child development. Successful K-6 teaching experience is required. Knowledge of and experience with certification and accreditation regulations and policies at the state and national level is expected. Expertise in and a commitment to teaching in inclusive, multicultural settings will be given strong consideration.

Responsibilities include: teaching graduate level courses in elementary curriculum and pedagogy; developing/maintaining an ongoing research agenda which includes scholarly publication; directing the Childhood Education Program, advising graduate students; working with local school districts in teacher education and related areas; and collaborating with other departments in the Graduate School of Education and Allied Professions and across the university.

The salary range is competitive. Appointment is effective September 1, 2013.

Educational Technology - Assistant Professor of the Practice

The Department of Psychological and Educational Consultation in the Graduate School of Education and Allied Professions at Fairfield University invites applications for a non-tenure track Assistant Professor of the Practice of Educational Technology, renewable for a 3 year term.

This dynamic and growing program prepares K-12 educators to integrate foundational technology tools for 21st century teaching and learning. Attention is given to curriculum design and development, learning theory for digital environments, as well as specific hardware and software applications for enhanced interactive learning./p>

Responsibilities include:

  • Teaching three courses a semester
  • Advising and supervising students
  • Planning and implementation of new courses and curriculum development
  • Assisting with assessment and NCATE accreditation data collection and analysis
  • Serving on university, school, and departmental committees, participation in scholarly and service activities
  • Collaboration with public and private schools in technology integration.

Required qualifications:

  • Doctorate in Educational Technology or related field.
  • Demonstrated enthusiasm and innovation in implementing technology for PreK-20
  • Experience with interdisciplinary technology-embedded instructional practices
  • Instructional focus on master's level educational technology courses in one or more areas: inquiry learning, digital age literacies, Web 2.0 and 3.0 tools.
  • Expertise and experience teaching in online learning environments
  • Knowledge of research based assessment and evaluation of technology-embedded instruction

Highly desirable qualifications:

  • Experience with technology integration and practices in Special Education and TESOL
  • Ability to supervise student teaching and internships
  • K-12 certification and professional experience

Demonstrated teaching effectiveness at the P-12 and higher education level is beneficial, as is a background in technology-embedded curriculum design and implementation, as well as experience mentoring teacher candidates and evidence of positive participation as a faculty team member.

Tenure Track Nursing Faculty Positions

Fairfield University, School of Nursing, invites applications for fulltime tenure track faculty positions at the Assistant and Associate Professor levels for the fall, 2013 academic year. The School of Nursing offers Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) accredited baccalaureate and graduate degrees in nursing, with specialization in nurse anesthesia, family nurse practitioner, psychiatric nurse practitioner, clinical nurse leader, and healthcare management. The graduate program began admitting students to the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program in fall 2010.

Responsibilities:
