M.A. in Counselor Education - Career & Professional Opportunities


The Counselor Education practicum and internship experiences help candidates develop their counseling skills in counseling settings under close faculty supervision. The Counselor Education Department has an excellent record of intern placement in:

  • Both urban and suburban schools
  • Family service
  • Youth service
  • Women's support
  • Substance abuse agencies

Graduates of the School Counseling Program are well represented in elementary, middle, and secondary schools throughout Connecticut. Many graduates have also secured employment as school counselors in other states. In addition to individual and group counseling, school counselors provide:

  • Classroom guidance
  • Teacher/parent consultation
  • Peer facilitated programs 

Graduates of the Clinical Mental Health Program are employed throughout the region in a variety of human service settings where they provide counseling services, consultation, and prevention programs to address issues of:

  • Substance abuse
  • Domestic violence
  • Family adjustments
  • Career planning and placement

Several graduates have gone onto doctoral study. Many alumni have earned honors for their counseling work and are active in their professional organizations.
