Accreditations for the Graduate School of Education and Allied Professions

Fairfield University's Graduate School of Education and Allied Professions is fully accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) through September 2013. It is the first denominational school in Connecticut to earn this distinguished recognition.

Additionally, two programs within the School were recognized by their NCATE-affiliated specialized professional associations. The program in Elementary Education received recognition for the Association for Childhood Education International (ACEI), and the Special Education Program was nationally recognized by the Council for Exceptional Children (CEC).

"National accreditation from NCATE is the most prestigious recognition a school of education can receive," said Dr. Susan Douglas Franzosa, dean. "This really speaks to the excellence of our programs and the Jesuit values inherent in a Fairfield education. GSEAP strives for academic rigor and its graduates are some of the best examples of 'men and women for others.'"

The School also holds full program approval status through September 2013 from the Connecticut State Board of Education.

In 2009, the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Professions (CACREP) awarded the professional programs within the Department of Counselor Education an eight-year accreditation with no stipulations. The two Fairfield programs are the first of their kind in Connecticut to receive this accreditation.

The Marriage and Family Therapy Program is fully accredited by the commission on Accreditation for Marriage and Family Therapy Education (CAMFTE).

Fairfield University's School Psychology Program in the Graduate School of Education and Allied Professions received NASP Approval with conditional status for January 2010. NASP treats programs with full or conditional status equally in terms of the rights and benefits of NASP approval.
