What can I do?
Buying and Choosing
Home Sweet Hamburger? Buy locally produced products. You'll help save on hefty transportation costs and emissions. Buy locally grown fruits and vegetables when they are in season to reduce packaging.
This is Not a Shopping Bag. Bring your own bags - cloth, plastic, designer - to the store with you. Opt to carry your goodies sans sac.
Just add water. Choose concentrated products, such as juice and laundry detergent, to reduce packaging in our landfills.
Paper, paper everywhere!
Purchase toilet paper made from recycled post-consumer waste. Ditch paper towels and napkins altogether. Opt for washable cloth. Choose products with little packaging or recycled packaging.
Bulk up.
Buy in bulk and add products to smaller reusable containers for day-to-day use. Side benefit: Fewer gas-burning trips to the store.
No Styrofoam - EVER! When choosing packaging, look for products in recyclable containers: corrugated cardboard, aluminum, glass, #1 or #2 plastics.
