What graduate programs does Fairfield University offer?

Fairfield University offers advanced degrees in 35 graduate programs.

I work full time. Will classes fit in to my schedule?

The graduate programs at Fairfield University allow individuals with full-time jobs the flexibility to pursue their studies conveniently on a part-time basis. Classes are held days, evenings, weekends, and online. Fall and spring classes generally meet once each week on a weekday evening or on Saturday. Classes generally meet from 4:45-6:45 p.m., and from 7:15-9:15 p.m., often making it possible to take two courses while traveling to campus just once a week. Summer schedules vary.

How do I apply?

Each program requires a completed, signed application and the following:

  • Personal statement/essay. Describe your purpose in undertaking graduate work in relation to the program of your choice. Include the factors or experience that led to your decision to pursue graduate work at Fairfield University and your ultimate goals. Please submit any additional information that you feel will help the committee in making a decision.
  • Two recommendations. You must use the recommendation forms provided in addition to separate letters.
  • Official transcripts. Official transcript(s) of your academic work must be sent directly from each college or university you attended to Fairfield University's Office of Graduate Admission. Your application will not be considered until all official transcripts, including those from Fairfield University, are received. Fairfield University transcripts must be requested from the Registrar's Office.
  • Official test scores (if applicable).
  • $60 non-refundable application fee. Please make your check or money order payable to Fairfield University.
  • Completed immunization form.
  • Interview (Engineering, GSEAP, and Nursing only).
  • Resume (if applicable).
  • Supplemental application form (GSEAP only).
  • Certificate of finances (international applicants).

What are the application deadlines?

  • Graduate School of Education and Allied Professions (GSEAP): Varies per program.
  • School of Engineering: Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.

Is financial aid available? How do I apply for financial aid?

A limited number of graduate and student activities assistantships are awarded each year to full-time students, and the School of Engineering provides modest scholarships to select students. Students may also take advantage of several options to help defray educational expenses. These include Federal Stafford Loans, available in amounts up to $18,5000 per year, and employer tuition reimbursement. In addition, Fairfield University offers several deferred payment options for eligible students. For further information, call the Office of Financial Aid at (203) 254-4125.

Do I need to take the GRE or another standardized test?

Test scores specified by the program to which you are applying must be submitted.

No test scores are required for graduate programs in The College of Arts & Science, Nursing or Engineering.

  • Charles F. Dolan School of Business: Applicants are required to complete the GMAT. Test results should be forwarded directly to the Office of Graduate Admission at Fairfield University. The MBA, M.S.in Finance, and MBA in Public Accounting require a GMAT score of 500 or higher.
  • GSEAP: Applicants to the School Counseling, School Media Specialist, School Psychology and all other teacher preparation certification programs must submit PRAXIS I PPST or CBT passing scores or waiver. Passing scores or waiver must be on file before formal admission. Applicants who took the SAT on or before March 31,1995, and who earned a combined score of 1000 with at least 400 in the verbal and mathematics subtests; or who took the SAT on or after April 1,1995, and who earned a combined score of 1100 with 450 in the verbal and mathematics subtests may be eligible for waivers. Call the dean's office at (203) 254-4250 for a PRAXIS bulletin, waiver application, or further information. Please use school code RA3390 to report PRAXIS I and PRAXIS II scores to Fairfield University.

What are the requirements for admission to graduate programs at Fairfield University?

Are there special admission requirements for international students?

International students are encouraged to apply. Please submit a certified translation of all transcripts. All application materials must be submitted three months prior to the intended enrollment date.

Does Fairfield University offer online courses?

Can I pay my tuition bill with a credit card? Can I pay online?

Payments may be made in the form of cash (in person only), check, money order, MasterCard, VISA, or American Express. If registering online, payment must be made in full and can be made online with electronic check (ACH) or credit card. For more information, visit Billing Information. Will I have an advisor?

All graduate students have an advisor.

Is there a time limit to complete a program?

Most students complete their degrees in approximately two to four years, depending on the program and the number of courses taken each semester.

I just want to take graduate-level courses at Fairfield University. How can I do this?

Most programs allow interested candidates who would like to take one or two courses before formal admission to enroll through the Special Status Student option. This option allows you to test your interests and to evaluate the appropriateness of the program you are considering.

Can I transfer credits?

No more than six credits may be transferred. Your advisor will determine how previously earned credits may be applied to your program.
