Fairfield University Tuition Exchange Export Policy - Fall 2008
Tuition Exchange Procedures for Fall 2008:
Tuition Exchange is a partnership of 550+ colleges and universities offering competitive tuition exchange scholarships to members of faculty and staff employed at member institutions. Fairfield University became a member in 2000 and sent its first class of "exports" to participating institutions in Fall 2001.
While this is an additional tuition grant-in-aid opportunity for Fairfield University families, it is important to realize that it is not a guaranteed benefit since Fairfield has an obligation to maintain a balance between outgoing students (exports) and incoming students (imports) and to fulfill our initiation period.
Fairfield University's liaison office is responsible for certifying eligibility for each export applicant to his or her chosen institutions and does not guarantee acceptance at the host institution. Acceptance into the host institution does not guarantee a Tuition Exchange scholarship. The host institution grants the scholarship and each institution has its own process for scholarship selection. These scholarships are not automatic. Many institutions choose their scholarship recipients based on the academic profile of the applicant.
The Tuition Exchange program for 2008-2009 will be offered to ten children of eligible employees who will enter college for the first time in Fall 2009. The scholarship does not always cover full tuition*.
Full-time faculty on tenure track appointments and full-time staff with four years of continuous service may complete an "Application for Tuition Exchange Form" between August 1 and September 5. Years of service will be determined through the Office of Human Resources. Eligibility will be consistent with current policies. All eligible employees will be rank ordered by years of service. In order to export four students, we will certify ten applicants. Applicants who are not selected will be placed on a waiting list according to seniority of service years as alternates.
August 1-Sept 5 : Complete the request for "Application for Tuition Exchange Form" and send to Laura Martin, Kelley Center.
Sept. 15: Each applicant will receive verification of eligibility and be informed of their priority ranking. If the number of applicants exceeds the number of Tuition Exchange scholarships available for export, applicants will be selected on the following priority:
- first priority will be given to applicants based on continuous full-time seniority.
- should there be a tie among applicants with the same number of service years, actual date of hire will be used.
By mid-April 2009, each Fairfield export applicant will be required to verify the status of his or her applications for Tuition Exchange (offered, rejected, denied) with the University's liaison office. A $35.00 processing fee, payable to Fairfield University, will be applied to the applicants who accept a Tuition Exchange scholarship.
Re-certification for any employee's child who is participating in the Tuition Exchange program is required each year through Fairfield University's liaison office. Students will ordinarily be able to remain in the program for four years but continued participation depends upon yearly certification of employment eligibility and the student's satisfactory academic standing at the host institution.
Termination from Fairfield University will terminate the Tuition Exchange scholarship agreement at the host institution. Eligible employees will be limited to two students per family in a four-year period.
Process for Alternates:
Should one of the chosen applicants withdraw from the Tuition Exchange process prior to Jan 15, we will utilize our alternates.
Note to all: Remember getting accepted into a school is not a guarantee of a Tuition Exchange award.
* Tuition Exchange sets a minimum tuition amount should an institution not cover full tuition. Fall 2008 amount will be $26,800. Fall 2009 minimum amount has not been set.
