Jesuit Universities Humanitarian Action Network (JUHAN) engages students in understanding the complexities of humanitarian crises - domestic and international, and how to prepare for a professional career in humanitarian service. The JUHAN is a collaborative effort among U.S. Jesuit Colleges and Universities piloted by Fairfield University, Fordham University, and Georgetown University in 2007-08. Components to the project include:
- Leadership Teams of students with a faculty and/or staff mentors charged with raising awareness on campus about humanitarian crises and working toward strategies for response
- Academic courses on humanitarian issues from various disciplines
- An annual national skill-building conference for undergraduates of Jesuit universities
Model UN provides students with an opportunity to deepen their knowledge of international organizations, law, and negotiation. Fairfield students have attended Model UN conferences in the United States, and internationally in Germany, Brazil, Canada, and China.
Migration issues are high on the international agenda. International Studies majors are award-winning volunteers with the International Institute of Connecticut where they mentor recent immigrants. Other students do research projects for legal clinics that are included in asylum petitions.
The Culpepper Language Resource Center is equipped with computer-based multimedia, provides language instruction, as well as software, interactive videos, and CDs on cultural materials.
International Business/Studies is a student club that takes a leadership role on campus in organizing events and activities for International Business and International Studies majors.
