Faculty help identify most important print journalsFaculty lent a hand in identifying the most important print journal subscriptions to support the curriculum. In many cases, format duplication was reduced and budget savings were realized.
Academic Departments were provided with lists of journals assigned to them in March 2005 and were asked to try to identify for cancellation titles equal to 5% by cost which no longer support the curriculum so that other important library resources could continue without reduction. A number of departments embraced this important task, endorsed by the Faculty Library Committee, with enthusiasm, and over 100 titles costing nearly $30,000 per year were identified. Some 24% of the cancelled titles are still available in electronic format. There will be additional savings with the cancellation of 22 related microfiche subscriptions.
Departments that did not identify titles for cancellation will be contacted this academic year with a view towards realizing additional savings for the 2007 subscription year. Visit the Journal Locator database to see if the title you need is among the 16,000 print and electronic subscriptions available here. |
