Storage Area Network

Computer hardware equipment and software has recently been ordered to create a storage area network (SAN) within the Dolan computer room. Typically these devices provide for additional storage and as an area for backing up computer files. As part of this new configuration there will be a consolidation of many of the more than seventy server devices, now resident in that location. An easily scaleable redundant array of independent disks (RAID) will also be included as a component of the SAN, that will allow for rapid disk storage space expansion as needed by the user community. Currently approximately 225 faculty and staff use the SAN for storage and backing up computer files.
