More computers, other enhancements in Information CommonsMore computers, more functionality, and increased security mark the changes in the heavily used Information Commons.
The operating systems of the 30 Information Commons computers were upgraded to Windows XP for greater security (resulting in less downtime due to user file corruption), and Office 2003 Pro and plug-ins were installed. Personal or library headphones may be used. Also, a scanner was added for user convenience. The impetus for this increased functionality was to address the increasing incorporation by subscription databases of sound files and MS Office applications in the results and to allow students full access to materials on electronic reserves, WebCT and StagWeb. Another 6 computers will be added this fall to fill out the remaining empty workstations. |
