Letter from Public Safety
April 2008
Dear Degree or Certificate Candidate:
In an effort to make the process of parking on campus the day of Commencement as delay-free as possible, we would like to provide some suggestions for you and your guests.
Arrive early! We have found in the past that the heaviest volume of traffic arrives in the half hour prior to the start of Commencement. To avoid this, please instruct your guests to arrive before 9:15 a.m. Vehicles traveling northbound on I-95 should use the Round Hill Road Exit #22 and enter campus through the Northwest (Jogues Hall) gate. Vehicles traveling southbound on I-95 should use the North Benson Road Exit #22 and enter campus through the South (Barlow Road) gate. Vehicles traveling from either direction on the Merrit Parkway should take Exit #44 and enter campus through the main entrance.
Please follow Officers' directions! In order to direct the flow of traffic, certain roads on campus will be closed before the ceremony. University Public Safety and Fairfield Police Officers will be directing all vehicles to parking areas. Your patience and cooperation will be greatly appreciated. Shuttle buses will be available for rides from all parking areas to a drop off near the Commencement location. They will also provide rides back to the lots following the ceremony.
Please come prepared for inclement weather, as every attempt will be made to hold the ceremony outdoors. In the event of severe weather, Commencement exercises will be held at the Bridgeport Arena at Harbor Yard. The decision to stay outdoors or move indoors will be made by 7 a.m. on Sunday May 18. Updates will be announced on WVOF-FM 88.5, WEZE-FM 99.9, WEBE-FM 107.9, WICC-AM 600, the University web site www.fairfiled.edu or by phone (203) 254-4222. We also ask that no dogs or other pets be brought to campus that day.
VEHICLES FOUND PARKED IN FIRE LANES, BLOCKING ANY CAMPUS GATES, OR ROADWAYS WILL BE SUBJECT TO BEING TOWED AT THE OWNER'S EXPENSE.
Sincerely,
Frank J. Ficko
Associate Director
