The study of communication examines all the ways humans communicate - both verbally and nonverbally - across a variety of levels and contexts.

Fairfield University's Master of Arts program in Communication emphasizes theory, research, and application. In addition to those interested in going on to study for a Ph.D., an M. A. degree in Communication can lead to advancement in careers throughout:

    • business and industry
    • the healthcare sector
    • all levels of education
    • media and public relations
    • the non-profit sector
    • government and social service

As a graduate student in Communication, you'll work individually with a faculty advisor to tailor your curriculum to your personal, professional, and academic goals. Throughout the program, you'll be supported by Fairfield's faculty in communication - a diverse, talented, and enthusiastic group who are excellent teachers, active in scholarly research, and uniquely able to bring both academic and professional experience to the classroom. In addition, Fairfield's commitment as a Jesuit institution to effective communication, especially across cultures and contexts, will enhance your learning across disciplines as you advance through the program.

Fairfield's M.A. in Communication is designed to allow you the flexibility to plan a curriculum that fits your needs and provides the highest quality graduate educational experience. We invite you to learn more about the program's requirements, courses, flexible study plans, faculty, and director. Have more questions? Read our FAQs or contact us. We hope you'll find the program enriches your life as you prepare to become both an effective and ethically responsible communicator who can integrate theory, research, and practical skills.
