Web-based file sharing - Xythos

Overview

How many times have you tried to send an attachment through e-mail, but it didn't work because the file was too big? How many programs do you use in order to get to your work files from home or someplace else? If your answers are "a lot" and "too many," then you'll love what you're about the read.

C&NS will be rolling out a new secure service for sharing folders and files called Xythos. (Pronounced: zï-thos). What Xythos allows us to do is share folders and files over the Internet. What does this mean? You can share folders and files with anyone on campus and anyone outside of Fairfield University. That's right! Xythos allows you and those who you give access to access your folders and files from the Internet. You manage and set the permissions for others to access your folders and files. C&NS does not have to do it for you.

No client software or installation is required. You just use any web browser.  There is no need to logon to the University network using Remote Desktop Connection (Achilles) or a VPN client (Cisco) and it works on PCs, Macs, and Linux computers.

C&NS will begin to roll out Xythos on a department by department basis during the spring. We will offer demonstrations, hold training classes, and have instructions explaining the features of Xythos. General information on Xythos can be found at the following website: http://www.xythos.com

If you would like a Xythos account prior to department rollout, please contact C&NS at ext. 4069 or send an e-mail to cns@mail.fairfield.edu.
