Automated Password Reset - FAQs

What password does this reset/change?
This system is designed to reset your Fairfield University network account password. This is the password associated with logging into your Windows computer (domain: ffldu) and email sent to yourname@mail.fairfield.edu. This system is not associated with Banner or Stagweb.

I am having trouble enrolling. What should I do?

If I don't know my password, how can I log onto the system and get to a web browser to change my password?
On a Microsoft Windows computer, please click on "forgot password" on the initial log on screen which displays the Fairfield University logo. This will take you a secure kiosk that functions as a web browser.

I am using Internet Explorer on a Macintosh Computer and my screen freezes when I try and enroll. What am I doing wrong?
The Macintosh version of Internet Explorer is not compatible with this software. Please use Safari or Firefox to access the site.

Are my answers to the challenge questions secure?
Information is encrypted and stored on the server. C&NS staff will only ask for your "semi-private" question and answer if you call the C&NS helpdesk. They will not have access to any of your other questions.

What is the "semi-private" question?
This is the final challenge question in the enrollment process. It is used to verify the identity of a user on the other end of a phone call to the C&NS Helpdesk.

Is it required that I enroll in the self-service password reset program?
Effective December 1st, users who are not enrolled in the self service password reset program will have to come, in person, to Dolan Commons to have their password reset. Having C&NS staff change passwords without some form of verification is a security risk.

What happens if I choose not to enroll in the self-service password reset program?
Effective December 1st,  users who are not enrolled in the self service password reset program and have forgotten their password will have to come, in person, to Dolan Commons to have their password reset.

When I try and enroll, there are 4 questions. Do I have to answer all of them?
Yes. To provide the highest level of security, all questions must be answered. Each question cannot be repeated.
