Welcome to Computing & Network Services

In June, 1999, the department of Computing and Network Services (C&NS) was created to support campus computers and the campus network.

Fairfield's farsighted planning created a fiber-to-the-desktop network infrastructure in the early 1990s, providing a solid basis for data networking for several decades. But fiber to the enduser by itself does not create a fast, state-of-the-art network. C&NS has spent many years upgrading and standardizing the electronics and servers on the network to provide a reliable, fast, secure, and seamless computing environment for campus users. Fairfield's data network extends to every dormitory residence on campus as well, providing every campus resident with easy-to-use copper connectivity built upon a fiber infrastructure.

An agressive three-year recycling commitment by Fairfield has successfully upgraded well over a thousand of the university-owned computers since 1997. Most faculty and staff computers, as well as those installed in the public computing labs, are powerful multimedia machines.

Cost-effective campus licensing of software has not only saved Fairfield money, but has allowed the University to standardize the applications used and supported at Fairfield, providing an environment for easy document sharing across operating systems and platforms.
