Changing Your NetID Username
This document explains the policy for having a NetID Username changed.
Your NetID Username is computer-generated based on official University records. Typically your NetID Username is generated by some combination of your first, middle and last names or initials. Each NetID is unique and associated with only one individual. When you leave the University your NetID is made inactive and reserved for you if you return. For this reason restrictions have been placed on when your NetID can be changed. The following are acceptable circumstances for requesting a change to your NetID:
- A legal name change.
If you are a student and meet the above requirements, contact the Registrar's Office to have your name changed in your student record.
If you are faculty or staff and meet the above requirements, contact the Office of Human Resources to have your name changed in your personnel record.
After your name has been changed on official University records, your NetID Username change should occur automatically. Please contact the Computing & Network Services Help Desk at (203) 254-4000 ext. 4069 if you experience any problems accessing your accounts or information.
- The generated NetID Username is considered "commonly offensive".
Please contact the Computing & Network Services Help Desk at (203) 254-4000 ext. 4069 to initiate your NetID change.
- Full-time faculty and staff hired at Fairfield University who had a previously-formed student NetID (firstname.lastname) may request, via their respective Vice President, to have their NetID name changed to the faculty/staff naming convention (firstinitiallastname), assuming there is a valid business need. Please contact the Computing & Network Services Help Desk at (203) 254-4000 ext. 4069 for information regarding this process.
