Biff J. O'Reilly '80, P'11, Chair
Biff graduated from Fairfield University in 1980 majoring in Economics and received his M.B.A. from Babson College in 1984. He is currently President, of PBS Capital LLC, a real estate investment company. Upon graduation from Fairfield he began his career with Merrill Lynch Relocation Management Inc., then after receiving his M.B.A. joined Moseley, Hallgarten, Estabrook and Weedon as a broker, later moving to Donaldson Lufkin and Jenrette, then ultimately joining E.F. O'Reilly Inc., a family founded brokerage firm. He became Executive VP of New York Bus Service in 1996, rising to President in 1999 until it was sold to the City of New York and the Metropolitan Transit Authority in 2005.
Biff resides in Greenwich with his wife Jeanne, Class of '82 and their two sons, Christopher, Class of '11 and Edward.
David Babbitt '79
David Babbitt has been with the Bank of New York since 1986. He is currently the Vice-President for Global Markets, Foreign Exchange Sales. Prior to that, he worked in London in Global Markets, Foreign Exchange Services, where he was responsible for marketing and maintaining business relationships with Institutional Investment Advisors requiring foreign exchange execution services and market information. He managed a group of 25 clients with significant revenue base. David got his start at Bank of New York as a Commercial Lending Officer, structuring Credit Facilities for Fortune 500 companies and being responsible for marketing all Bank services to the same group of companies. At that point, most of his clients were located in Chicago / St. Louis and Kansas City. David worked at Chase Manhattan Bank from 1979 through 1986, beginning in the General Audit Division. In 1984, he entered the International Credit Audit Program focusing on maintaining Credit Standards within the Chase Manhattan International Branch network. This position required extensive travel to all branch offices throughout the Far East, Africa, Middle East and Europe.
From 1997 until 2005, David served on the Athletic Board of Directors for St. Patrick's School in Chatham, NJ, and he was the Co-President of the School's Parent-Teacher Organization from 2000 until 2002. From 2006 until 2008, he participated in the Appalachia Outreach program for local students. Since 2007, David has been the President of the John Taylor Babbitt Foundation, which was created in memory of his son, to increase awareness of Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy, since 2007.
David graduated from Fairfield University in 1979 with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting. While at Fairfield, he was a member of the Swim Team and was an Editor of the Yearbook for his junior and senior years. He currently resides in Chatham, NJ with his wife, JoAnne and son Andrew, who is going to be a senior at the Pingry School located in Martinsville, NJ. Hobbies include golf, running and just about anything outdoors.
Pierre D. Bognon
Pierre completed his undergraduate education at Ecole des Hautes Etudes Commerciales (HEC) in Paris, France from 1960-1963. He subsequently received a Fulbright Scholarship to study at the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania from 1963-1965.
Pierre began his career in 1967 as Assistant Treasurer of the Morgan Guaranty Trust Company in both New York City and Paris, France. In 1971 he joined the Societe des Eaux Minerales de Vittel based in Vittel, France, first as CFO and then COO. In 1983 his career path led him to Marsh & McLennan in New York, where he served as Treasurer for Marsh & McLennan, Inc as well as for Marsh & McLennan Companies (MMC). In 2000 he and his family moved to London where he served as CFO of Marsh Europe until his retirement in 2003.
Pierre has served on various boards throughout his career. He is currently a board member of Tactical Global Management GTAA and International Funds in Brisbane, Australia & London, England as well as of MMC France & March Inc France. Formerly he was a member of the Financial Executives Institute, chairing the International Committee, and of the International Capital Markets Advisory Committee of the New York Stock Exchange. He is also a former board member of the Fulbright Association.
Soon after its inception he joined the board of the Fairfield Chapter of Centisimus Annus Pro Pontifice (CAPP).
Pierre has led a very international life. He was born in France, spent his youth in France and Germany and served his national service in Dakar, Senegal. He currently resides in New Canaan, CT and Paris, France with his wife Leigh, to whom he has been married for 40 years. He enjoys spending time with his four children and four grandchildren and traveling all over the world. Since retiring, in addition to serving on various boards, Pierre has written a book on the subject of Fans and Fanaticism. Throughout the years he has donated both time and money to various causes close to his heart.
Pierre Georges Bonnefil '80
Pierre is an attorney at EpsteinBeckerGreen in the Immigration and Labor and Employment practices, in the firm's New York office. He also is a member of the firm's Diversity Committee, Hispanic Business Group, Technology Team, and International Trade practice. Pierre, who has served as an Attorney General Honors Attorney with the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), has extensive experience representing both companies and individuals. Pierre has hosted and appeared on numerous television and radio programs on immigration. He has lectured at St. John's University School of Law and served as an Immigration Counselor at Medgar Evers College of the City University of New York. Mr. Bonnefil has written on such topics as "Global Immigration for the Multinational" and "Illegal Immigration and Immigrant Responsibility Act." Pierre authored a chapter, "Developing a Solid Immigration Strategy in Light of Recent Developments and Trends," in Employing Highly Skilled Foreign Nationals (Thomson Reuters/Aspatore, Nov. 2009). In an Aspatore Special Report, Understanding the Immigration Debate: An Immediate Look at Arizona's Proposed Immigration Reform and the Federal Government's Response, Mr. Bonnefil contributed a chapter titled "The Post-Arizona Immigration Law Reality" (Thomson Reuters/Aspatore, 2010). Pierre is a recipient of the French Order of Merit and a Member of the Board of the American Society of the French Order of Merit.
John Boylan '81
John P. Boylan leads the Federal Marketing team as an Executive Vice President at Cassidy and Associates. He is a force multiplier for corporate business development and university research centers. John brings intimate knowledge of defense, intelligence and homeland security procurement policy to Cassidy & Associates' clients. His experience in government and industry enables him to identify key contract opportunities for clients by telling them where and when to focus, and what to avoid. His combination of knowledge, experience and relationships makes him a trusted advisor and invaluable confidant to our clients. Using a disciplined and repeatable process, John helps clients identify their strengths and weaknesses in the federal market. He builds a roadmap with a by-name contact plan and then executes it with the client. His clients have included aircraft manufacturers, telecom, security, start-ups, universities, geospatial intelligence producers, satellite operators, data storage and data center infrastructure, telemedicine, and Small Disabled Veteran-Owned Businesses. John's 30 years of experience span flying KC-135s as a Navigator and CFIC Instructor, leading USAF exports and technology transfer policy for Space & C4ISR, to numerous jobs at NGA legacy organizations. He has led the development of new geospatial-intelligence products, and built 'future' strategies that are today's sensors and UAVs. His industry experience was honed at Lockheed Martin in Business Development, where he was key to their strategic wins in the intelligence community. John has a B.A. in Politics from Fairfield University and an M.A. in History/International Affairs from California State University at Stanislaus.
Kathleen Braga '78
Kathy graduated from Fairfield in 1978 with her Bachelor's in Biology. She received her J.D. in 1985 from Georgetown Law, where she served as an editor on the Law Review. In 2008 she received her certificate from EPS, a four year program of adult formation in theology and the Catholic faith. From 1979 through 1984 she was the Office Administrator for the Arlington Chamber of Commerce. In 1993 she co-founded Thank You Research to support bench lab scientists involved in animal-based research. She served on the IACUC Committee of Children's Hospital National Medical Center from 1993-1994. She has served as the President of the Marian Foundation since 1998. From 2008-2012 she worked at the House of Mercy in Manassas, Virginia in various capacities, including serving on its Board of Directors from 2009-2011. It was here that Kathy first encountered the many issues facing the immigrant community, many of which were compounded by the reality of living below the poverty level. Through the years, while devoting herself primarily to raising her children, she has been involved in many voluntary aspects of the community, church and schools. She has been a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish for over twenty years and has served the parish in many ministries, including as a member of the Parish Council and as a catechist for 13 years. She and her husband Steve '78, have lived in Northern Virginia for 33 years; they have four children.
Susan is a stay at home wife and mother. She has been married to Frank J. Carroll III (class of 1989) for 18 years and they live in Greenwich, CT. They have three children; Molly, Erin, and Frank IV. Susan is a graduate of Troy State University in Troy, Alabama. She received her Bachelor of Science in Management and Psychology. Susan has lived in Wilton, CT for 11 years. She spends most of her free time volunteering and really enjoys giving back to the community. She was a Girl Scout leader for 7 years. She has been a Religious Education teacher at Our Lady of Fatima church in Wilton for 6 years. Susan also volunteers at the elementary school library each week and is a member of the Wilton Women's Club. Susan has been an active committee member of several fundraisers in Wilton, including the Family and Children's Agency and A Better Chance of Wilton.
Mary Ryan Cunningham '76
Mary is serving her sixth year on the Board of Trustees at Fairfield Country Day School and is currently on the Executive Committee. Mary is active in many local charities including Shepherd's, Inc. and Mercy Learning Center and has volunteered for many years at Lauralton Hall and Fairfield Prep where her children attended high school. She and her husband, Kevin '76 have lived in Fairfield for 25 years and have 5 children.
Laura R. Hull P'13
Laura holds degrees in both Business and Literature. She worked at Wertheim Schroder from 1982 until 1993, when she left to focus on raising her family. Laura and her husband, Brian '80, have three children, one of whom, Matthew, will graduate from Fairfield in May of 2013. Laura sits on the boards of the Manhasset Women's Coalition Against Breast Cancer and the Friends of the Manhasset Public Library. She has a long history of civic and volunteer involvement as well as participation in fundraising activities.
Richard S. Kelly, Jr.
Born in Chicago where he attended Loyola Academy, a Jesuit high school, Richard is a graduate of Harvard College (1973) and holds an MBA from Stanford Graduate School of Business (1977). After college, Richard was a Peace Corps Volunteer in Niamey, Niger, West Africa. He has spent over 30 years in investment banking with Lehman Brothers, Credit Suisse First Boston, JPMorgan Chase and currently with The Bridgeford Group, a boutique M&A firm, now part of Mizuho Securities of Japan. For many of those years, he and his wife with their four children lived in London, Tokyo and Hong Kong. Richard is Chairman of Jesuit Refugee Services USA in Washington, D.C. as well as a board member of The Jesuit Collaborative in Boston. Previously, he was an advisor to the Executive Director of the Center for Christian-Jewish Understanding at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield and on the President's Committee of the Asia Society in NYC. Richard remains active on a variety of Harvard and Stanford committees, including currently on the board of Harvard Club of NYC. He and his wife Ginna currently reside in Greenwich and are parishioners of St. Mary's Parish.
Kathi P. Loughlin '80
Kathi P. Loughlin, a 1980 graduate of the University with a degree in Marketing, currently consults in the areas of branding, marketing and advertising strategy. She was the founder and President of Loughlin Creative, LLC, a direct marketing and advertising agency serving a global client base, including American Airlines, American Express, Citibank, DirecTV, Nasdaq, and Verizon, to name a few. The award-winning agency was consistently recognized by Advertising Age as one of the nation's top 100 direct marketing agencies. Prior to starting her own firm, Ms. Loughlin directed MCI's global promotion efforts, including all of MCI's partnership marketing alliances, the launches of all product offerings, and national sponsorships. Ms. Loughlin is credited with the launches of many of MCI's "firsts," including the MCI calling card, MCI Mail (the nation's first email service), and Friends & Family. She was one of MCI's first employees. Previously, Ms. Loughlin managed marketing communications for GTE's Business Communications Group. She entered GTE in its prestigious Marketing Associate Development Program, where she was mentored by the CEOs of Sylvania Lighting and Electronics; GTE Telephone Operations; and, GTE Consumer Communications Products. She was the first undergraduate candidate to be accepted into this elite management development program. A former University Trustee, she previously served on the Advisory Board of the College of Arts and Sciences. She is married to fellow alum Tom and they live in Washington, D.C. with their two daughters, Nora and Hannah.
Thomas P. Loughlin '80
Thomas P. Loughlin, a 1980 graduate of the University with a degree in Accounting, is a Managing Director with Promontory Financial Group, an internationally-recognized advisory firm that assists boards of directors and executive management of leading financial services companies in the areas of strategy, finance and financial institution regulation, crisis and risk management, compliance, regulatory relations, M&A activities, and corporate governance systems. He specializes in advisory services, investigations, and independent monitoring efforts that involve management processes, reporting, and controls, specifically in the areas of accounting, auditing, regulatory compliance, and financial reporting. Before joining Promontory, Mr. Loughlin was a Founder and Managing Director of Clarient Group LLC, advising executive management and boards of directors with respect to oversight of financial reporting, accounting, controls, regulatory compliance, audit and other review activities, and external auditor relationships. Previously, he was a Partner at KPMG LLP where he directed audit and assurance services for major financial institutions. He co-founded KPMG's structured finance practice and led its securitization and investor reporting services. Mr. Loughlin was also a Managing Director at KPMG Consulting, where he served on the executive committee of its financial services advisory practice. Mr. Loughlin is a CPA, licensed in Washington, D.C. and Connecticut and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. A former University Trustee, he currently serves as the Chair of the Finance Council for Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church in Washington D.C. He is married to fellow alum Kathi and they live in Washington D.C. with their two daughters, Nora and Hannah.
Charles F. MacCormack is currently President of Save the Children, the world's leading independent nonprofit organization serving children in need. With programs in the United States and in more than 50 countries, an annual budget of over $350 million and more than 6,000 staff worldwide, Save the Children works to create lasting positive change in the lives of children in need through programs in health care and nutrition, education and economic opportunities for children, their families and their communities. Save the Children also provides humanitarian assistance during natural disasters, war and conflict. Dr. MacCormack is on the Board of Directors of the International Save the Children Alliance, implementing $1 billion of programs for children in 120 countries.
Dr. MacCormack currently serves as Board Chair of InterAction (the national association of over 160 international humanitarian and development organizations) and as Co-Chair of both the Basic Education Coalition and the Campaign for Effective Global Leadership. He is Co-Chair of Global Management for Children, the world's leading NGO Coalition to reduce newborn mortality. He is also a member of the Council on Foreign Relations.
Throughout his career, Dr. MacCormack has served in many consultative and official roles. He sat on the Advisory Committee on Voluntary Foreign Aid and the Food Security Advisory Committee, and was President of the Non-Governmental Committee on UNICEF. He was a member of the Board of Directors of the Arthur D. Little Management Education Institute. He was selected by the United Nations Secretary General to participate in the Founding Committee of the United Nations University and served as a member of the United States Delegation to the 1997 World Food Summit and the United States Delegation for the 2002 General Assembly Special Session on Children. He was awarded an honorary Doctor of Education by Middlebury College, and an honorary Doctor of Law by Clark University. He was made a member of the Grand Cordon of the Order of Al-Istiolal by former King Hussein of Jordan.
Prior to his current position at Save the Children, Dr. MacCormack was President of World Learning (formerly known as the Experiment in International Living) from 1977 to 1992. His first experience at Save the Children was as Vice President of Programs in the 1970s and for four years he worked as the Director of the Masters Degree Program in International Management at the School for International Training. Before that, he was a research fellow in foreign policy studies at The Brookings Institution. He had earlier served as Assistant to the Dean of the International Fellows Program at Columbia University. Dr. MacCormack was an instructor of Latin American Politics at the University of New Hampshire Summer School and was a staff associate for the First National City Bank International Division in Caracas, Venezuela.
Dr. MacCormack received his doctorate and master's degrees from Columbia University and his undergraduate degree from Middlebury College. He was a National Science Foundation Fellow at the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico in Mexico City and a Fulbright Fellow at the Universidad Central de Venezuela in Caracas. He has also participated in a special three-year program at the Harvard Business School on the Leadership of Global Non-Profit Organizations. Dr. MacCormack resides in Easton, Connecticut. He is married to Susan Ross, who serves as President of the Fairfield County Community Foundation. They have two sons, Cameron and Fraser.
Robert Murphy '71
Robert Murphy was named vice president of Administration in September 2007. He played key roles in the re-launch of "Nightline" and in organizing ABC's 2008 political coverage. Mr. Murphy was named senior vice president, Multimedia in March 2000. He was responsible for transforming ABC News from a traditional broadcast news organization to a high-quality, digital newsgathering organization, producing news program content on a variety of platforms, including broadcast, cable, internet, broadband and wireless. Additionally he oversaw ABCNEWS.com, ABC News Radio and ABC NewsOne, the affiliate news service of ABC News.
A 32-year veteran of ABC News, Mr. Murphy was senior vice president for Hard News for ABC News since January 1993. He had editorial, operational and budget responsibilities for Hard News operations of the division. In this capacity he was responsible for all news coverage, ABC News bureaus, "World News Tonight," "World News Now," "World News This Morning," weekend news, NewsOne, radio news, special events and political coverage. Mr. Murphy joined ABC News in April 1976, on the Washington bureau's assignment desk, becoming its manager in March 1978. He was named deputy Washington bureau chief in January 1980, and served in that capacity through April 1981, when he moved to New York as director of television news coverage. He served as vice president of television news coverage from 1984 until his appointment to senior vice president.
Prior to joining ABC News, Mr. Murphy was a staff assistant to Congressman Peter Rodino for the House Judiciary Committee's impeachment inquiry from October 1973 to October 1974. He was assistant superintendent of the House of Representatives' radio and TV gallery from October 1974 to April 1976. Mr. Murphy is a 1971 graduate of Fairfield University in Connecticut. He holds a Master's degree in business administration from the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia.
Kelly Nakamoto '89
Kelly Nakamoto is a Tax Partner with PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP located in McLean, Virginia. She has over 20 years of experience providing tax consulting services to inbound and outbound public and private multinational companies. Kelly has consulted with multinational clients requiring expertise in corporate taxation, international tax, and mergers and acquisition planning. Kelly has led client service teams advising on the tax implications of major business transactions for Fortune 500 companies. She drives benefits for clients by managing the balance between the global tax effective rate and the desire for cash tax savings. She has worked extensively with multinational companies and has significant experience working with boards of directors. Kelly has become a trusted business advisor to several "C Suite" executives of Fortune 1000 companies. Kelly has been an active participant in the leadership and future of PwC and is an active member of the community. Kelly has been an adjunct professor at American University where she has taught Federal Income Taxation in the MBA program for the Kogod School of Business. In addition, she has co-authored several technical tax articles for the Tax Advisor.
Kelly is a native of New York and holds a Masters in Taxation from the American University Kogod School of Business and a Bachelor's degree from Fairfield University. She is an active supporter of Capital Hospice, Washington Jesuit Academy and serves on the Board of Directors for Volunteer Fairfax. Volunteer Fairfax is an organization which matches the skills and interests of volunteers and donors to the needs of local non-profit organizations, helping to build a better community through service.
Gregory Neville P'11 and Marianne O'Connell Neville '79, P'11
Marianne and Gregg live in New Canaan. They have two children; Laura Leigh (a Fairfield sophomore), and James (age 10). Marianne graduated from Fairfield in 1979 with a BA cum laude in English, before pursuing a ten year career with the Irving Trust Company in financial institutions banking. Gregg is a Director in Credit Product Sales with Barclays Capital in New York. Gregg received a BA from Williams College and a J.D. from the University of Maryland School of Law. Gregg and Marianne have had a longstanding commitment to Fairfield; in addition to their daughter, three of Marianne's sisters, all three of their husbands and several cousins are Fairfield graduates. The Nevilles are looking forward to help with this very important effort.
British Robinson, honorary JD '06
British Robinson earned an undergraduate degree in public policy/business administration at Mount Vernon (now George Washington University) in 1989 and sharpened her business know-how in the private sector before bringing those skills to the nonprofit world two years later. She also worked with the Jesuit Volunteer Corps and the National Catholic Social Justice Lobby. In 1994, Robinson joined the Social and International Ministries Office of the U.S. Jesuit Conference as a policy analyst and was later named as the agency's national director, a position she held for 10 years. During that time, she earned a master's degree in government at Johns Hopkins University and served on the Board of the Jesuit Volunteer Corps and Jesuit Refugee Services/USA. British is currently Senior Vice President, Innovation and Strategic Initiatives at Women for Women International, which provides women survivors of war, civil strife and other conflicts with the tools and resources to move from crisis and poverty to stability and self-sufficiency, thereby promoting viable civil societies. She delivered the keynote address at Fairfield University's 2006 Commencement ceremony.
Robert G. Rooney
Upon graduating from St. John's University in 1978 with a B.S. in Accounting, Bob spent eight years as a certified public accountant with Ernst & Young. He left public accounting to become the first Chief Financial Officer of Imagine Entertainment and has served as Chief Financial Officer for a number of private and public companies with responsibilities including finance, accounting, investor relations, tax, information technology, risk management and other operations. Bob currently serves as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Affinion Group, Inc., a leading global provider of comprehensive marketing services and loyalty programs including credit monitoring and identity-theft resolution, accidental death and supplemental health insurance, discount travel and shopping services and various checking account and credit card enhancement services.
Bob resides in Greenwich, CT with his wife of 26 years, Lisa B. Rooney, M.D., a graduate of Mount Holyoke College (1980) and NYU Medical School (1984). Lisa is a pediatrician with The Pediatric Center in Stamford, CT and a member of the Board of Directors for the Child Guidance Center of Southern Connecticut, Inc., a non-profit organization which provides outpatient mental health services for children and adolescents. They are the parents of four children, Bryan (21), Kaitlyn (18), Madelyne (15) and Kristyn Mary (12). Both are active members of their parish (St. Catherine of Sienna in Riverside, CT) and local parochial schools. Bob is the President of the Fairfield County Chapter of Centesimus Annus Pro Pontifice, a lay led, Vatican chartered organization founded by Pope John Paul II to spread the understanding and implementation of catholic social teaching.
Joseph Russoniello '63
Joseph P. Russoniello was born October 12, 1941 in Jersey City, New Jersey. He retired on August 13, 2010 from serving his second term as the U.S. Attorney for the Northern district of California (which encompasses the 15 counties from the Oregon-California border to Monterey, including the San Francisco Bay Area). Prior to his appointment, Mr. Russoniello was senior counsel and resident in the San Francisco office of Cooley Godward Kronish LLP where he was a member of the Litigation department and the practice group for Business Crimes & Regulatory Defense. He also served as Dean of the San Francisco Law School for five and a half years until his resignation in July 2007.
From January 1982 to March 1990, Mr. Russoniello served his first term as the U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of California. Her personally prosecuted Larry Layton of the Peoples Temple for his part in the murder of Congressman Leo Ryan in Jonestown, Guyana, and tried several other high profile criminal and civil cases. His office prosecuted the Hitachi and Mitsubishi corporations for their theft of IBM secrets; Jerry Whitworth and James D. Harper Jr. in separate espionage cases and dozens of white collar crime cases involving financial institution fraud, money laundering, securities fraud, public corruption, defense procurement fraud, other government contract fraud, export control violations, copyright infringement and trademark counterfeiting.
Mr. Russoniello received his J.D. from New York University Law School in 1966 and a B.S. in Politics from Fairfield University in 1963. Following graduation from NYU, he was appointed as special agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and later served as an assistant district attorney for the City and County of San Francisco before joining Cooley Godward Kronish in 1975.
Between 2004 and 2007, Mr. Russoniello was a member of the National Review Board of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB). He is a member of the American College of Trial Lawyers, the Edward McFetridge Inn of the American Inns of Court, the American Board of Trial Lawyers the American Law Institute and numerous civic and legal organizations.
Joe and his wife of 41 years, Moira, reside in San Francisco and Napa, California.
Kelly Ryan is the coordinator of the Inter-Governmental Consultations on Migration, Asylum and Refugees (IGC). The IGC is an informal, non-decision making forum for intergovernmental information exchange and policy debate on issues of relevance to the management of international migratory flows.
She joined the State Department in April 2002 as a Deputy Assistant Secretary of State in the Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration (PRM). She played a leading role on the US team negotiating the UN Convention onThe Rights of Persons with Disabilities in 2005 and 2006. She was the lead negotiator in a bilateral treatywith the Government of Canada on a "safe third country" agreement relating to allocation of asylum claims and testified on the agreement before the U.S. House of Representatives Committee of the Judiciary, Subcommittee on Immigration and Claims. She has also concluded agreements with the governments of the Philippines, Vietnam, and Thailand. She has represented the US in numerous international meetings and events, including various sessions of the UN Economic and Social Council; the UN Commission on Population; the UN Population Fund; the High Level Dialogue on Migration. She leads the U.S. delegations to the Hemispheric Conference on Migration and Trafficking (Santiago, Chile 2002). She serves as the US Vice-Minister at the Regional Conference on Migration (Antigua, Guatemala 2002 and Cancun, Mexico 2003, Panama City, Panama 2004, Vancouver, Canada 2005, and San Salvador, El Salvador 2006). She chaired RGCM sessions in New Orleans when the US served as Host and President Pro Tempore of the RCM. She has led US delegations to the Inter-Governmental Consultations on Asylum, Refugee, and Migration Policies in Europe, North America, and Australia (Oxford, United Kingdom 2002 and Antwerp, Belgium 2003, Svalbord, Norway 2004, Whistler, Canada, 2005, and Amsterdam, Netherlands 2006, Dublin, Ireland 2007).
Prior to joining the Department of State, Ms. Ryan practiced law for ten years. Most recently from 1998-2002, she served as the Chief of the Refugee and Asylum Division of the INS Office of the General Counsel. There, she directed the division responsible for advising the agency and the Department of Justice on issues involving immigration law and international protection under the U.S. legal system. She has been the DOJ representative on the U.S. delegation to sessions of the Executive Committee of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Geneva, Switzerland and to sessions of the "Trans-Atlantic Dialogue" on migration issues among the U.S., Canada, and the European Union. She also served as the first legal advisor to the INS In-Country Refugee Processing Program in Port au Prince Haiti and worked in a similar capacity during the shipboard processing of Haitian migrants aboard the U.S.N.S. Comfort. She drafted the major federal rule that reformed the US asylum system and was the lead advisor to the agency on the expedited removal provisions, the most controversial and far-reaching asylum-related change in the last major immigration legislation in 1996. She successfully defended the agency in district court challenges to those provisions. She supervised the development of the formal process for considering claims under the Torture Convention and for the development of the visa rule for persons who have been victims of trafficking. She has led the development of advice on legal issues of first impression including national standards for the treatment of gender claims and clan membership.
Her awards include: 2002-2006 Department of State Performance Awards; 2000 and 1998 Commissioner's Meritorious Service Awards, the second highest agency award; the 1999 Commissioner's Challenge Award; 1997 INS Office of International Affairs Special Achievement Award for Special Acts; and 1997 INS General Counsel Superior Accomplishment Award. She received a B.A.cum laude in History and English, Tulane University, a J.D, Georgetown University, and an LL.M with honours, Queens' College at Cambridge University.
Rosellen Walsh Schnurr '74
Rosellen graduated from Fairfield University with a BA in History in 1974 and received her Master's in Eastern World History from Georgetown University in 1978. Rosellen's 30 years of experience as an educator in both the private and public sector has provided her with many rewarding and exciting opportunities, serving in many different administrative roles, including as the Dean of Liberal Arts of a private school. She has also taught classes in many subjects such as Western Civilization, Economics, Psychology and History, as well as been involved in establishing curriculums.
Rosellen has been a member of the Board of Trustees since 1995, and has served as the vice-chairman, on the Executive Committee, and as the Chairman of the Committee on Trustees. In addition, she was part of the Presidential Search Committee that was responsible for the hiring of the Rev. Jeffrey von Arx, S.J., who became the eighth President of Fairfield University in July 2004. Rosellen was the recipient of the Alumni Service Award in 2004. Rosellen was the first of three Walsh children to attend Fairfield, followed by her brother, Thomas J. Walsh III '78 and sister, Marianne Saladino Walsh '88. In 1990, the Walsh family name became permanently and publicly attached to Fairfield when an art gallery at the Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts was named for Rosellen's grandfather, Thomas J. Walsh. In 1999, in recognition of the family's $5 million gift, the athletic center was named for her father, who was president and chairman of Colonial Wire and Cable Company.
In addition to her longtime commitment to Fairfield, Rosellen currently serves on the Executive Committee of the American Mural Project, a 3-dimensional mixed media mural, measuring 120' long and 50' high that is a tribute to America's work ethic and ingenuity. The project will culminate with interactive educational technology made available to America's classrooms. It is estimated that over 10,000 Americans will take part in helping to produce sections of the work, which was originated by artist and creator, Ellen Griesedick. Since 1992, Rosellen has served as the Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Indian Mountain School in Lakeville CT. In that role, she has run board meetings, oversaw the budget and fundraising issues, and assisted in the merger of 2 schools to form one that is K-9. Rosellen recently became of member of the Cosmopolitan Club, a professional women's club in New York City.
Rosellen has been married to Robert C. Schnurr, M.D., '74, for 31 years and is the mother of Brian (27), who is employed in her family's business, Michael (26) who will be starting his final year of law school at Georgetown University this fall, and Christina (19), a rising sophomore at Bates College. The Schnurrs reside in Sharon, CT.
Margaret O'Reilly Smith '74, P'06
Margy graduated from Fairfield University in 1974 with a Bachelor's degree in History. After several years of work, she pursued and received an MBA from Rutgers University in 1977. She worked at Citigroup from 1977 until 1984. Since 1984 she has focused on her family, including three children, one of whom, Margo Smith, graduated from Fairfield in 2006, and on volunteer work. She has supported the Shipley School in Bryn Mawr, Pa., the Crossroads School in Malvern, Pa. and the Delaware Valley Friends School. She has served on various committees, capital campaigns and other fundraising activities.
Dan Sullivan '73
Dan Sullivan, President and CEO of Collette Vacations, has over 25 years in the travel industry. Sullivan's travel experience includes tour guiding, product development, sales, and marketing; as well as managing the corporate team and providing the strategic vision for the company. As CEO, Sullivan has brought Collette from a $60 million dollar domestic entity to a $170 million global enterprise. Dan has been responsible for such innovative first-to-market initiatives as launching a worldwide sales team and driving new product development to non-traditional destinations.
Dan is an active supporter of travel and non-profit causes including the USTOA, the Travelers Conservation Fund, as well as the Boys and Girls Club, and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. In 1999, he established the Kosovo Relief Fund to benefit the victims of the War. The fund was developed with the American Red Cross and challenged all travel suppliers to make donations which Collette would match. More recently, Collette Vacations donated $25,000 to two organizations helping in the tsunami relief effort, and another $25,000 in support of those affected by Hurricane Katrina. Both relief efforts accepted match donations from Collette employees, dollar for dollar, up to $15,000. Dan also launched a 2006 initiative to donate all New Orleans tour profits to The Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund of the American Red Cross.
Sullivan is on the Board of Directors for the Greater Providence Chamber of Commerce, as well as Tourism Cares for Tomorrow (TCFT). He serves as Co-Chairman of the Pawtucket Foundation, an organization committed to the continued economic development of Pawtucket, Rhode Island, Collette's home city. Sullivan was named as a finalist for the New England Entrepreneur of the Year Award in 1997 and 1998. He graduated from Fairfield University in 1973 with a degree in marketing.
Erin von Uffel P'12
Erin von Uffel graduated from Marywood College with a B.S. in Fashion Buying, Marketing and Education in 1978. After graduation she worked at the French fashion designer Boutique, Emmanuel Ungaro. She gained experience in all areas of the retail business while executing fashion shows, creating store displays and working closely with clientele, some of whom she dressed for their character's costumes in Broadway Shows and in film. In 1979 she left the world of retail behind to become a High School Teacher in Bethpage where she taught Home Economics. She enjoyed interacting with the students and gave all her free time to coach gymnastics and cheerleading. It was at that time she received her Master's Degree from New York University in Education. In 1986 Erin left teaching to give birth to the first of her five sons. While raising a family she then turned her attention to charitable undertakings. She continued her involvement as the Chairlady of the German Quadrille Ball. In 1990 the Marians from the Divine Mercy Shrine appointed her an Apostle of Divine Mercy. At the time of the first "Gulf War" she started "Project Support" which was acknowledged by the White House and reported by all the major news services, including print, radio and TV. She was an active member and chaired functions for the Junior Welfare League, Holiday House and St. Johnland.In November of 2003 she was inducted as a Dame of Malta. In 2006 she produced a film for Mary's Media Foundation. In 2007 she created the Sr. Marie de Mandat-Grancey Foundation and is President. Over the past few years she has been asked to speak to various groups domestically and internationally on Sr. Marie de Mandat-Grancey, D.C.,Foundress of Mary's House in Ephesus, Turkey. In 2006 Archbishop Celestino Miglore, Permanent Observer of the Holy See, asked her to join his committee for the Path to Peace Foundation In 2008 she was appointed as Hospitaller for the Order of Malta. As a Parishioner of St. Patrick's Church she became a Eucharistic Minister, started prayer groups, lead pilgrimages, taught Confirmation Class, Summer Bible Camp, and volunteered at Homes for the Elderly and ministered to patients at the Hospital.
G. Kurt von Uffel P'12
Kurt is originally from Haddonfield, N.J. and graduated from the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School with a B.S. in Economics. Immediately after graduating Kurt joined International Raw Materials Ltd., a small commodities trading firm in Philadelphia. He then moved to Dean Witter Reynolds in NY in 1982, joining the government bond trading desk. Kurt worked at DWR for five years as the long bond trader, becoming a Senior Vice President. In 1987 he joined L.F. Rothschild as a Director and worked there for two years. After a brief stay at Prudential Securities in 1989, Kurt joined Morgan Stanley later that year as a Vice President in government trading. Kurt quickly became a Principal and then, in 1996, a Managing Director. Kurt held a number of positions at MS including market maker, proprietary trader, and trading desk manager. Kurt managed desks in the U.S., Canada, United Kingdom (where he lived with his family for 3 years), and Tokyo. Within the firm he served on the promotion committee and participated heavily in the recruitment of undergraduates and graduate students for the firm. Kurt also served as Head of the Interest Rate Division and on the Executive Committee of the Bond Market Association. Kurt left Morgan Stanley in 2004 to become Head of Interest Rate Trading and Deputy Head of Fixed Income at Nomura Securities International. Kurt retired from Wall Street in April of 2007.
Kurt lives with his wife, Erin, and five children (all boys ages 22 to 14) in Cold Spring Harbor, New York. Kurt is a Knight of Malta since 2003. He is also a member of the United Nations Path to Peace Dinner Committee.
