Visual and Performing Arts
The visual and performing arts have always been an integral part of the human experience as they weave together knowledge, skills, and personal and cultural values. Skill expresses knowledge, and personal values drive one's artistic and aesthetic choices. All students should acquire knowledge of history, context, theory, and the interaction of art, society, and the self. Towards this end, you'll become familiar with the major artistic achievements of the visual and performing arts.
The Department of Visual and Performing Arts at Fairfield inculcates the practice of developing intuitive, creative, expressive, and aesthetic faculties and the ability to connect these with reasoning skills. The creative process is a means of giving shape to your own experience and requires a certain amount of introspection, experimentation, and risk taking. With exposure to the visual and performing arts as a major or minor in the department, you'll have the creative and artistic abilities required for a variety of future professional challenges.
The Department of Visual and Performing Arts at Fairfield University houses these five programs:
Art History | Music | New Media, Film, Television, and Radio | Studio Art | Theatre
All of the programs offer full majors and minors. Students can major or minor in any of the 5 areas or declare double majors and minors within the Department. For instance, you could double major in Studio Art and Theatre with a minor in Music. Alternatively, you could double major in Art History and English, or any other desirable combination.
Because of the flexibility of our curricula, Fairfield University is a great place to study multiple and interdisciplinary arts. We hope you will agree!
