Theatre Fairfield
Theatre Fairfield's 2011-2012 Season
Theatre Fairfield is the production wing of the University's theatre program. Theatre Fairfield's season includes professionally directed and designed productions, as well as student-written, directed, and designed work. In any given 4-year period, we produce plays from many historical periods and styles:
- Musicals
- Comedies
- Serious dramas
- Period plays
- Contemporary works
- Original plays
A group of four scholarship students works closely with faculty and staff in administering Theatre Fairfield's season. Participation in Theatre Fairfield productions is open to all students at the University, regardless of major or minor.
Fairfield also has its own improvisation company, On The Spot, which performs regularly throughout Theatre Fairfield's season. Fairfield University's premiere long-form improv troupe On the Spot has been bringing comedy to campus since 1990. Taking a suggestion to start each act, On the Spot is a two-act performance where anything can happen.
On the Spot prides itself on entertaining the Fairfield University campus, as well as teaching workshops and spreading laughs for local high school students, the Fairfield Preparatory School, and developing special curriculum-inspired shows for other Fairfield University departments.
Each January, Theatre Fairfield also affords upper-class theatre majors and minors the opportunity to mount an Independent Project at the PepsiCo Theatre, funded by the Jamie A. Hulley Arts Foundation.
