Art making is a wondrous act of combining the intellect with the intuition. The program in Studio Art in the Department of Visual and Performing Arts focuses on students' creative inquiry in ways that guide the development of a personal vision and the ability to envision a future.
Art is something that is lived as well as created, and artists can contribute to society in multiple ways, such as:
- Exhibiting professional artists
- Designers
- Collectors
- Museum professionals
- Scholars
- Activists
- Educators
Our majors and minors experience the intimacy of a small art community while benefiting from the broad range of liberal arts courses that Fairfield University provides all undergraduate students. Learn more more about the goals and mission of the Studio Art Program.
Our faculty is comprised of artists, as it is the belief of the program that students benefit from working with practitioners actively engaged in the discipline. Empathy and sensitivity are nurtured as students build a visual vocabulary to create, critique, and analyze works in the studio and in museums and galleries.
The Lukacs Gallery is located in the Studio Art Program and features class exhibitions as well as solo exhibitions of Studio Art majors and minors. On occasion, the gallery hosts an exhibition by a professional exhibiting artist.
